| For the first time in a couple of years, the FalconCam is once again streaming the day-to-day lives of the Peregrine Falcons nesting at the Radisson
Hotel in downtown Winnipeg. We were all set up with a new camera in the nestbox last year but at the last minute, the resident female Fiona chose
to nest on a ledge on the east side of the building where viewing is much more difficult. So we leapt into action and set up new cameras at the Logan
nestbox and had a wonderful viewing experience! We had hoped that we would have a similarly excellent view this year with our new Radisson box camera,
but it wasn't to be. It seems that at some point, our new camera was damaged beyond our ability to fix remotely or on-site without disturbing the birds.
And we definitely didn't want to disturb them! Pip has been our resident male here for the last 3 years but Ella is from our West Winnipeg nestsite, and
while Ella & Pip both have raised chicks successfully before, it is their first year together and we didn't want to risk them moving to the east side ledge
again - it just isn't as safe for chicks as we'd like!
In the end, we managed to get the streaming up and operating and we have installed a camera along the edge of the nestbox so we can see the chicks while they are small and not very mobile. In 3-4 weeks we will band the chicks and while Ella and Pip are harassing the banding team, our cam coordinator Larry will venture to the nestbox and install a new camera so that we have a better view to watch the chicks as they get more mobile and eventually fledge (take their first flights).
So while it isn't quite the view we had planned and prepared to share with you all, we hope you enjoy watching Ella, Pip and their new family over the next 2 months!
Thank you to our streaming partner, Shaw Spotlight and to Larry our cam coordinator for all his efforts to get us & keep us connected!
