there have been a few 2 legged creatures on the adjacent roof also. Still trying to meet with Gord

magpies and ravens are related. Don't want to see either of them there. Peregrines only!

The magpies clean out the nest box. But the ravens can nest in it and that is why we do not mind the magpies.
check out my slideshows I just entered in the 2009 thread for Edmonton . It was a lot of work and I know they are late but sometimes life just happens.

Bev & Mr Bev: I just started going through your slideshows - they are wonderful and bring back such fond memories! They were a great family to watch and of course being Trey and Princess's grandkids makes them even more special :-* Loved the shots of Froona and the Magpie kids..lol that was great!
I can imagine how you feel about losing Mr White and whether or not you did the right thing, always that way in hindsight and we love them so much, it's so hard to lose them. You guys did a great job this year, without you all we may have lost more than one. I know that's small consolation but it may be that Mr White had an internal injury that was fatal and would passed on no matter where he was.
I remember my introduction here to the PF's when the female Diana crashed into the building and my boss yelled and I ran into her office and that was the first I ever saw a peregrine falcon or heard of one - seems like so long ago. They picked her up and took her to the vet but to no avail as her injuries were too severe from the hit - so try not to be so hard on yourselves, there may have been nothing you could have done to save him. At least he got to look into the eyes of a human that had nothing but love and the best intentions for him.
You should all be proud of yourselves for the wonderful job you did watching over that family and because of all your efforts and devotion, three beautiful young juveniles have a strong chance of survival and alot of people have been introduced to the wonderful world of peregrines!
Thank you for the fantastic photos and for sharing them with all of us! Looking forward to seeing our girl Radisson again soon and of course the lovely Miss Edmonton too ;)

THEY JUST LEFT BUT WERE THERE EARLIER TOO, BCAW TOOK SCAPS OF THEM. PROBABLY OUT GETTING NESTING MATERIALS AGAIN. *SIGH*

They will only just have arrived because it was nice and empty all weekend long. Perhaps Radisson and Damon will get their little feathered butts in gear and get home earlier this year so we don't have another year of evictions!!

Interior of the nest box looks littered on the cam shot, but it's not obviously sticks like last year when G&W took up residence.

I met with Gord today.
First of all I did see two RAvens at the river on the way to the site. Later Peter and I saw 2 at the Uni but by Ed building.
I brought Peter along for a break.
all the biologists are at the University for the next few days sharing stories and giving talks on peregrines and other birds, so Gord was kind enough to meet us and talk with us.
First week of April ,which is next week , he is going to add new gravel to the box. He asked me about the state of the box and with all the stuff in there they will fix it up.
Also he is going to address the problem of the white structure by the box. It will still remain there but he is making a cover from canvas that will fit over top after banding so the young will not drop inside. this is great news.
We discussed the interference from maintenance workers and he will talk to them again. We will also try and coordinate all the security people so they are in the loop.
And no media at the banding. He also was upset last year about it.
He is also giving me the name of the man that owns the2 buildings where Miss Edmonton roosts and I will try and coax him into letting Gord put up a nest box.
We will keep a watch on the ravens. hopefully the storms in the USA will not delay our birds.
We were also talking about transmitters and he also thinks that they may delay the migration back here of the peregrines and so sometimes if their site is gone they will not breed that year. It is being studied. So we will be carefully watching the return of the two at Genesse.

Sounds like you had a very productive meeting Bev! You are so lucky to be able to work with Gord - he obviously cares about the falcons. Great news that he is going to add new gravel and fix it up and double 'yay' for making the cover for that white contraption!
I really wish you luck with a nestbox for Miss Edmonton, she deserves it! Given the charisma and enthusiasm you showed during the interviews and media circus last year, I have no doubt that if anyone could convince him you could! Good luck!

I'm assuming the Gord you are talking about Bev is Gord Court ... if it was, just so folks know, Gord is one of the preminent peregrine falcon experts anywhere.
Having said that, Radisson outwitted him in 2008 when he tried to "catch" her to put a transmitter on her. Good Radisson, smart Radisson, you do your parents proud. ;D

Yes, it is Gord Court I am referring to. He is incredible and has a great love for falcons. He has since he was a youngster. He worked with the Tefrys out at wainwright for the peregrine recovery as a teenager.There was a big birding conference at the university yesterday and tomorrow and they were all sharing information.
We have become friends and he is great to work with. He does everything possible to make sure all our peregrine sites are as safe as possible. He shares many stories and is always interested in what I have to say.

I have photos but I do not want to jinx us and post them . they were busy at box last Friday and I let Gord know. this is the first appearance ,to my knowledge since then.
Peter and I are going down tonight again to see if we have falcons yet.

no signs of falcons on april 1 but we did see our ravens . Not at box though, Further down street and then we followed them. they left the campus area.
We are going down again this evening. Better time to go becasue they could be anywhere during day, when they come back. For us they may be late. Weather in Montana is crappy and they have to come that way. Wind rain and snow.

With seeing a falcon at Genesse ,I asked my chauffeur, Mr. Bev, to drive me to a few sites. No one was at home at Clinical science, no one at Weber building, and no one at Misrecordia hospital and no one at Inland cement.
Gord had the box moved at Inland cement to a building right behind it, so the juveniles will hopefully not hop any more trains ;) ;)Peter and I checked it out. I was a bit worried that the falcons would not see it(silly me) but it is within eye view of the other site. this one is much better as it is more protected and faces parking lot instead of trains.
Of course, my ace in the hole, with Peter, is Tim Hortons.
will go again tomorrow after 6pm that is a better time to see them.

Possible Radisson sighting by a fan on the BCAW board just reported at a spot Bev says she likes to eat! Bev is going to go down and check it out today. Oh I hope it's her, I miss her :-*

I am so looking forward to our peregrines coming back to CSB again this year. I am also looking forward to reconnecting with our friends on the Fledge Watch. Lawn chairs and binoculars are redy to go!!!

the person who saw the falcon last night is someone I know and respect and lives in the aprtments at the university.
but it could also be a falcon passing through. but whee it was perched was Radissons favorite eating spot.
Hopefully I can find something out.
It is cold so I will bundle up.

Peter and I just came back from the clinical science site and yes we saw a falcon. I was excited but guardedly so. It was on one of the transmitter things on College Plaza at about 8Pm. We took pictures but cannot make out who. the sun was shining(even though it was very cold)and so the breast looked very brown. I am hoping this is the lighting.
the falcon was not on the antennae as usual but it could have been earlier.
We were walking around and came back and saw it.
We also saw the ravens which did not hang around long. One actually landed right close to me ,when were on the roof . And of course , I clapped my hands and told them to go and find a nice tree :grin: :grin:
We saw it, the falocn, turn in for night and it did turn in where our guys hang out but.. I will not say if it was one of ours. We have to wait for better pictures and bands. that means it has to go to box.
When I looked at my photos and saw how dark the chest, Peter reminded me of the lighting.
so we will see.
I have all sorts of butterflies.
Peter will download camera right away and I will post a few shots. Be back in a bit

well Peter and I saw the falcon this evening and then waited until it turned in for the night . I may have to buy a summer apartment at the U of A :grin: :grin: (wish I had the money)
I only picked a few of what I took. the falcon would not look at me :-) :-)
Of course, poor Mr. Bev. he looked away and I had given him the camera, and he missed the picture of the falcon flying off for the night. so we will have to make a plan :grin: :grin:

when I took the pictures ,I thought ,too much brown but then I checked back on last season and saw that sometimes the lighting makes things appear ,what they are not. So we will have to wait until they come to the box. Peter and I will keep checking at site.

well tonight was very exciting. :) :)
I do not know if I will get pictures done tonight but I will write my report. It may be long.
As usual we start out ,up at the parkade, but tonight we stayed there.
Anyone watching will have seen the ravens go to the nest box. The reason being as there was another Pair of ravens that entered the territory and there was a raven fight.
But I think George and Louise were victorious. what a racket and we had ring side seats. The ravens stayed by us most of the night and we watched them preen each other and play kissy face. They are quite remarkable to watch.
Then they took off west of campus tower.
Now my poor hubby is freezing because he did not listen to his dear wife, to dress warm. when the sun starts going down and the wind picks up, it is cold. ::) ::)
About 8pm , we got the treat we have been waiting for.
In flies one falcon, no make that two :-* :-*
They circled the clinical science building and then the male went on the same perch as last night , on Campus tower. Yes, that was the male last night. Peter said it was, but it looked so dark because of the light. Well his nice white breast showed tonight . And the female roosted on the south east jut of the clinical science. What a site to behold. but not a sound. They were so comfortable together . I do not want to go out on a limb and say this is Radisson and Damon until we have bands. What the heck, I am almost positive it is them. :) :)

Everything was nice and quiet and then the silly ravens thought they would make their move to the nest box.
Well bad plan. ::)
One went under the female falcon and headed to the box and off the female flew. Dove right at it ,,between the clinical science and Heart buildings. I always hold my breath when they do this. The buildings are so close.
The other raven flew over to nest box also and the male falcon darted from the College Plaza and over. they dove and chased them off. I do not think the ravens knew they were there.
I think they scared the **** out of the ravens.
The male falcon circled back and went back to his roost, the female flew back to her spot .
Eventually the ravens went to a pillar on parkade adjacent to us. I really think they thought they would nest there this year but not build a nest. I think they thought all that mess would be a soft cup.
They then flew behind the clinical science building and our female flew on top of clinical science to keep an eye on them.
We usually wait till at least one turns in but it was getting dark and cold , and I think our pair were standing guard to make sure the ravens stayed away. When we left the silly things(ravens) were on a pillar .
I hope they find a spot soon. And I hope they stay away from the box, because the falcons will be relentless.
I also hope Gordon gets up there this week and cleans the box. It really needs it and he said he has to add more gravel also and sprinkle with powder.( The ravens may try and sneak in when the falcons are away from site. )
So I am thrilled to have them both back. I would be very surprised if it were not the same pair as their habits are the same and their roosts are the same.
So the female must have come in today.
I will try and post a slide show tonihgt but if not tomorrow. It is supposed to storm tomorrow so we will see.

Thanks for the reports, Bev. Such good news to finally have our falcons back! And I do hope the ravens, George and Louise, find a good nest elsewhere. Last year, I enjoyed watching them and their antics.

Had a terrific wind, snow and rain storm in St. Albert late yesterday. wind still strong. so we went and checked on falcons. Visibility was not good and we saw only one hunkered down but in the wind and snow last night ,one could have taken cover somewhere else.
Will not be out there again until Saturday sometime.

Part 1
Well Peter and I are a comedy of errors ;) ;). We will have pictures ready in a day. the battery went dead In camera(but got some really good pictures up to then) and when we put other battery in , it was dead :o :o . I had charged it up and it was a new battery. ??? ???
We got down to site at about 7:10 Edmonton time/
- Male was on NW corner of the Suite hotel and Female was on the bottom of the moon.(remember that sign)
- Male flew off East and around the building and landed on the top of E on Suite.
- Male then flew off and was flying high around the parking lot of hospital ,across from the Newton apartments
- then he landed on one light standard. then flew over to another light standard( now we thought this strange because it is quite low to the ground)
-The female flies to NW top corner of College Plaza.
- We see something on ground ,by green work trailer, not far from where male is perched.
-I went down to check it out(Peter thinks,dead falcon, I think pigeon)
- As I am crossing the street, male flies north to top south side of Diabetes building
- I check out the dead carcass. Yup, big headless pigeon. He must have clipped it mid-air and it dropped.( We will check the pictures to see if we can see it in pictures.) this is where our camera dies. ::) ::)

- Female flies off College Plaza and right over to nest box. she sits on perch facing in)
-Male then flies off and around and ends up on NW corner of Windsor Apartments(right next to college Plaza)
-Female goes inside box and then back on perch. she then flies off and goes to SW corner of top ledge of college plaza.
- Male then flies off and goes around to Female (we thought they were going to mate), but he veers off and flies to SE corner of clinical science on an aerial.
then he flies to top middle roof of University Terrace(right across from us) and no camera ::) ::)
-About 8:12pm Male flies around the college plaza and then lands on aerial at top
- at 8:16pm male flies off and turns in for night
-8:25pm Female flies off her spot and turns into same place as male
We check it out and they are on same ledge but opposite corners(she is making sure he gets her breakfast ,bright and early in morning
and thus our saga ends

Peter and I made a quick trip down last night.
No camera. Remember we thought it was the battery. well there is something wrong with my new camera??
When Peter phoned , they said it was on recall ,so we couriered it yesterday to Toronto and I should have it back by next week but my son-in-law will lend us his today and then we will put my memory card in it and download the pictures from the other day. Sorry
But we did see the female on the south west side of clinical science building when we got there . She had supper there. It looked big. We wanted to see if yesterdays supper was still on the ground. Peter thinks construction workers picked it up as we could see no feathers. Unless, the Mrs. picked the whole thing up. The male certainly could not.
The male came in from the north and flew around the female and they both flew to the heart building. She was perched on the edge and was cacking up a storm . I thought for sure he would fly around and canoodle , but no cigar . ::) ::) We lost track of him and then she started flying around the clinical science area cacking. And then off she flew.
Peter and I went for a short walk and that is all it took.The male was perched on the diabetes building looking north and she was not far away on the medical engineering building, facing north also.
That is where we left them.
We will probably not go down again till the weekend again. I am saying male and female until I positively ID them.
I jsut like to make sure things are running smoothly. Of course there is nothing I can do if not, but I i am getting my lasso ready , just in case. ;D ;D
We have a friend in the University hospital so maybe I can sneak a peek before then ;) ;)

5:48 Edmonton time and Radisson is laying in the nestbox this morning???!! And she heard me, she's up and she's off :P ::)

The box is such a mess and the cam lens is dirty so I cannot get a positive ID yet. Hopefully It is getting cleaned next week
I have not been able to watch cam too much last few days but I do know she is coming to box more now but I have not seen both at box yet. anyone else.
But by actions and where they roost it seems like same psir but I will not say until I know for sure.
Hopefully I can see that this week.

Peter and I spent a romantic evening ;) ;)checking out Edmonton peregrine sites. We were pleased to find the sites we checked dong well.
then we headed for clinical science.
Upon arriving we saw the male flying in from the southeast. He tried to land on the very top aerial o f his building(Windsor Apartments) ,but did not stay there long . He then circled around the heart building and flew past the nest box and then up on Heart building.
We were not quick enough to capture a picture of him but we heard the chupping and then saw the female in the nest box, on the back right side.
She then cam out on the perch, looking as gorgeous as ever. I went looking around the heart building and that is when I saw the male fly between the two of them and head out north west.
When I got back where Peter was, He had witnessed the female fly onto the heart building and then the male came around , and they copulated. that was when I saw the male flying off. (kiss and run ;D ;D )
The female hung around a bit and then she flew off north east over the Newton apartments.
It was getting dark and no sign of them. We looked where they tucked in, but no sign. When we got back to clinical science area, we spotted the female eating on the top north east corner of College Plaza.
We later saw one of them tucked in at usual spot and it was too dark to check other side.
so all is going well.

I spent a great part of my day trying to ID female and male at box
the box should be cleaned ,I am told ,shortly.
Here is a slideshow of the many poses of the female(who I am almost certain is Radisson. the last shot is the male. His breast is much whiter and he fills less of he box. the female is spending more and more time at the box.

Sorry for not checking in - I have been very busy and lost my password, and only remembered to reset it today. But, I can say that spending a large portion of each day on campus that the falcons are around full time. The female just left the nest box about 15 minutes ago and had been there for at least an hour - she looks gigantic to me! I can also confirm that Dave and I identified a number 7 on the band of what we believed to be the female at the time, so, looking good. I have not seen more than one male at a time, and believe that I have only seen one, if a new one is in the area, he would have to be new from this weekend! Looking forward to another summer of fun!

AFter going to Weber ,we just drove into campus and saw RAdisson with back to us on outside perch, and the male was on the south (in the middle) of the top of Newton Place.

Just caught Radisson in the nestbox, and it almost looks like she is laying an egg. I have never caught a falcon laying an egg before, though, so I am probably wrong now, too.

I agree, she's been at the nestbox quite a bit on and off today..more so than any other day since arrival back. She's also starting to look a bit lethargic to me...very relaxed.

We were at the site Sunday night ,April 25. Radisson was on her perch, proud as punch.
Then the male flew in amongst a slew of pigeons and started stooping them . We thought he had one ,just on south side of heart building ,but he was thwarted again.
Off he flew east of College plaza.
A bit later we saw pigeons scattering and knew someone was close by. sure enough ,there he was ,chasing a magpie off one of his favorite roosts ,directly across from us. We made ourselves scarce, in the stairwell.
He then flew over to Heart building and roosted on the west corner . Off he went again , soaring around the clinical science building and Radisson flew over to his spot. We knew what was going to happen.The male circled around and then came in and there was copulation.
The male flew off and went into the nest box for a bit .Radisson stayed on the corner of the Heart building
We could not see Radisson later ,so we think there was a stash on Heart building roof .
When we left, to check out Weber again, no one in view.
We came back quite late and the male was on the top aerial of Windsor place and Radisson was on the inside perch of nest box

I think it really depends on weather and site layout. If it's still chilly at night, she will lay on it and keep it warm until daylight and the temps are warmer. They are very protective of their eggs so they won't go too far away now, save for more 'baby making' to make more eggs but the nestbox will always be in sight by one of them once an egg comes.

If I remember correctly the male at this site was very attentive as far as food delivery was concerned and being by the nest box when called for by Radisson last year. She always was so proud for him to come in and view the eggs and he was likewise. 8)

Radisson won't begin incubating until the penultimate egg is laid (second to last) until then, unless there is a risk of freezing, she may hang out with egg one, but probably won't "incubate". Shelter maybe, protect from freezing for sure.

Well, I missed it again. Five minutes after I leave work, after watching her almost constantly for half an hour, she lays her egg. I guess I am not meant to see egg-laying. Good for you, Radisson and Damon.

Radisson finally got a break after 7 this morning and is still away but the male is there now. He has been coming and staying and standing in front of egg, and probably turning it. We cannot tell everything because of the LONG refresh :P

I'm having a hard time seeing into the nest box today. :-[ So, right now, I have no clue how many eggs are in there. There could be fifty for all I know (now, wouldn't that make the fledge watch interesting?). Hopefully my computer, or the camera, will smarten up -- I need to see what's going on.

Earlier this morning when the sun wasn't lighting up the condensation on cam 2 as much, I only saw 1 egg. I haven't seen neither parent at all today the times I checked in.

The adults have been in and out all day. Egg is being watched . Radisson is in there now and I hoping the egg that is laid next will be bright red so we can see it ;D ;D
I take pcitures when one is there and when it leaves, if I am here. I try and check regularly to make sure egg is attended and we always have 2 parents.

Just to update you -- no, I didn't get the job at the University at College Plaza. However, I do have a beautiful window office on the 16th Floor of the Phipps McKinnon Building ... directly facing the Telus Towers. Do you know if anyone is nesting up there this year?

If she's having more, I suspect tonight will be the night, 48 hours between 2 and 3 is the norm. Incubation should begin shortly and considering that she hasn't begun incubating, that's a good indication there will be a fourth.

It didn't yesterday morning but she was sure trying. Then the lens inside was full of condensation and we couldn't see anything, will try again today and hope it's cleared up!

It's still fairly cool here and still a bit of snow on the ground, so that may have some effect on the condensation. I really do wish it would clear up -- I'm dying to see (as you all are) what the heck is going on inside that nest box.

Radisson was on west ledge of College Plaza and Damon in nest box.
then he came out on perch and she flew over and he flew off and across to Heart building. She flew in and all is well.

It looks like the white scaffolding is still in place. Has it been modified from last years positioning, Bev? Didn't you mention concerns about it last year during fledging?

Snow has stopped and just rain. although it looks like we could have some sun today .
chicks might still be a few days away. I start my countdown early ,jsut in case. they had to start full incubation earlier than normal becasue of cold weather when they were laid. Adn surprise , surprise , weather has not changed much :( :(

I have a meeting with the cam people and the ECOS people next week so we will see what happens.

Been watching Radisson this morning, she's been sleeping for about an hour. When I first woke up she was moving around and looking under herself but then she finally settled and has not moved a feather since then.

She lifted up at 7:11 and caught a sight of one that looked freshly hatched. Prior to that she was rotating a lot and another half shell appeared. We might have 3 now.

I love how at this time of year we can still see in the box on Cam 3 view. Radisson, her white chest very visible, is on duty within, keeping the wee ones tucked.

So last Thursday on Breakfast Television, they reported the Telus falcons as losing 2 eggs. So, when our eggs started hatching on Saturday, I dropped them a line in hopes of seeing a more positive mention today. No luck this morning, but I did receive a phone call from the Metro just now, asking for some general confirmation details. I let her know that all 3 hatched as of yesterday, and provided a screen shot from the feeding - its the same as Bev has here which clearly shows the 3 chicks (lorac- you can def. see them all here!)

Yes, bcbird. that is damon in the last few pcitures I posted in my series.(not the slideshow of feeding)
when they are standing you can tell them apart. Damon has a very white breast. Radissons is more malted
Look also at their sideburns . Damons are more rounded and thicker, RAdissons are more pointed. Hope that helps.

Bev, thank you for the pictures of the feeding and explaining the differences. I didn't expect Damon to be in so soon, after seeing Princess dominate Ivy during the chicks first days at the Radisson site (Winnipeg. U of A Radisson is obviously a more sharing parent than her mother!
I'm very glad you post here in the Edmonton (U of A) link under the Manitoba Peregrines. It is interesting to have the relationship between Radisson and Princess defined that way!

Some pairs are more equal partners than others. T-Rex used to kick females out of the nest and would do more than half of the incubating and brooding. Madame did most of the nest duties with her first mate Pop, then was happy to let T-Rex do his fair share, did most of it again with Simba, then shared pretty evenly with Trey. Princess and Trey were even partners right from the start. Ivy is pretty in there for a new dad - never seen this many meals, certainly have never considered peregrine chicks to be grazers!!! Shift changes have been pretty regular between Princess and Ivy as well - she may have more, but he appears to be never far away and always ready for duty. So, every bird is different which means every pair is different ... some might come with age, some it just starts the way it continues. Suspect Ivy will always be a close-to-home-Dad, he was the same way in West Winnipeg from 2007-2009.

Thanks for the photos, bev. Glad to hear the chicks seem to be doing well. :D I have tried to check out the webcam there several times recently and can't seem to get it to work... I know that there are 3 webcams, but I can't get any of them to work. Only a still photo on each webcam. Is it live streaming? :-\ Do you have any tips for me? ???

The cams are 10 second (I think) refresh - you have to watch closely at times to see any movement. Sometimes it's only a few feathers that have moved. Quite often all I see is just the slightest turn of the head. I haven't seen a feeding yet, that would probably show a bit more movement. We're spoiled with our live stream.

The cams are a 30 second refresh. I use the old Java program. I cannot get cams with new one

What I am having trouble with, though is cam 2 - there looks to be something all over the camera lens - water, maybe? I can hardly see anything through it, and for a while thought there was nobody there but the chicks until Radisson moved and I could see her eye. It's been that way for several days now. Is anyone else experiencing the same thing? Cams 1 and 3 are clear.

Cam 3 at least gives us a view of the parent, especially during feedings.

Cam 2 has a leak in it and that is why there is always a preamble in the rain and after. I will see what I can do for next year at my meeting tomorrow. I do not think it can be done at banding

An incredibly sweet chick pile is very visible on Cam 2. No condensation in the way.

Action now! A very fresh looking bedtime snack is being served. Watching a feeding on this slow refresh does give the impression of a calm event. I love the times the screen shows the delicate positioning of the parent to get the morsel into the little open beak.

I was out on observations yesterday and will post some picutres from the ground as soon as i get them downloaded.
We managed to get both parents eating outside nest . In this heat parents perch outside nestbox area or on Heart building roof. We cannot see them there (on roof) til they fly off. RAdisson and Damon soared together for a bit not far from clinical science.
We did also get a few shots of prey in talons while flying.
Everything appears to be going well here.

Went for a stroll last night and RAdisson and Damon wre both on adjacent roof of heart building.
Both ravens were a block over on Corbet hall building. did not see their young one last night but probably in tree not far away.

We had banding today. Was not announced to public they wanted it low key to give as little stress as possible. I have lots of nice pictures . I will post when they are downloaded.
I have quite a few pictures and will have to wait until Peter downloads them. the lady form cam was there and she may have slideshow before I get to my shots, but we may have some different ones.
We have 1 male and 2 females
Male 84/V - Red
Female 0/4 X - Yellow tape
Female 94/V -Blue tape
they checked O.K. fro TRich. But as Gord says always be watching, and we all know the signs.
They also put a black net type thing over white stand next to box and tied it down with bungee cords. this is so young ones do not drop onto platform ,like last year. Hope it works
So I hope adults come back soon. they were still upset when I left ,so hjopefully they do not see black net thing as a threat.
It did not help that after the banding the Stars Emergency helicopter came in.
Do not be surprised if one morning we have another female. He was talking about putting another one here from a site with 5. But I think it would be a hassle now with the net there.
they are doing another banding this afternoon so maybe they could put it there.

Peter and I went down to site today preparing for fledge Watch. Can you believe that it will start in a week.
Yes these guys have been self feeding for a few days now. Radisson likes to start them early.
I wanted to share with you that we have a new male. I am not sure when the switch came. I am usually more on top of it, but with monitoring Genesse for the biologists I missed it. We noticed at banding that there were no gull feathers(Damons preference)
and of course I have been monitoring Weber to pinpoint hatch date there.
Actually Pete and I have been asking people on one site I belong to to watch the pair for awhile now. We thought something was different but we thought it was the ravens. We do know that Damon was here at the beginning of season. Another biologist confirmed the bands.
We have lost a number one male, who will never be replaces. They called him super male.
Between Columbus and here ,my heart is in my thraot , but I do not have time to worry , because we have to get these guys through fledging.
the both adults were at site today when we were there. The male was on south back part of Weber and Femlae was on the top above nest box.
Peter will download the camera in a bit. We did not take too many as we were watching . The male and female were soaring wonderfully west of clinical science fro a bit, but they were just a short flight from nest box. and I was watching so what could go wrong ;D ;D ;D

Yes, he is banded and I am waiting to hear where he is from. I got clear picture at banding. I hope it was not recent and he is helping Raddisson. He was defending at banding and we saw them both today.

Hard to believe that Damon could have disappeared and a new male move in without your noticing, Bev, even with your having been busy elsewhere. That would have been a rather amazing switch, and Radisson just went along as if nothing was out of the ordinary?

What ever happened to Damon, those chicks have been well looked after by Radisson with or without the aid of the new male.

I think I was in denial when we felt something was different. I noticed just pigeons coming into nest box and I wondered, but when we went down all was calm, every time we went.
It is hard for me to fathom, but my main concern right now is the kids and Radisson is doing a great job.
she always starts these guys early with self feed, but she always comes in and makes sure they are beak fed also. I first started to wonder a week ago, because Damon had so much food there all the time. It was a hoot. that is why it was so easy to foster into this nest, He could feed them all. All I hope is that this male can get them fledged and taught well.
I am sure all will be well. Will be an interesting fledge.

I also wondered briefly about not seeing gulls in the box but not having watched avidly prior to this year, i thought maybe gulls were hunted when the chicks got older. Seems odd that the male was replaced so late in the season ??? I really wish those ravens would move - i cringe whenever i hear them.

Bev I really appreciate the pictures to give us a better idea of where this nest box is and how it is set up in relation to the building, etc. Thank you so much. I would love to see pictures from so many of the other sights, especially the ones from the Netherlands. I'm figuring I'll have to take a trip over there, get my bearings and post pictures because the area looks absolutely beautiful.

The male will certainly try to help, especially if he's trying to woo and impress Radisson. Whether or not she allows him near the kids is another thing though...depends on how long he's been there and if trust has been established. Don't forget the female is the dominant one so the new male will go along with whatever she wants in order to have a chance with her - it's her nestbox not his so he has to win her over and helping out with the kids would certainly go a long way to impressing her.

We had a similar situation here last year when my two timing Jack was trying to woo TR Mom, she had 3 young one on the ledge too - only about 3 weeks old at that time. At first she just drove him off any time he tried to go near the ledge her babies were on.
Eventually though he won her over with food offerings and being as subservient as he could and he was eventually allowed to sit on the ledge near them. She never did let him feed the kids though. The females are extremely protective of their kids as we've certainly seen on cam, she'd kill anyone who tried to hurt them and let's face it, she's bigger than him ;D
I've never heard of a tiercel hurting babies, a new female falcon..yes, seen that many times but the males seem to be very willing to adopt offspring that aren't theirs.

I will post picturesas soon as downloaded but both were at nest area yesterday when Peter and I were there.
both have been a constant and that is why I never noticed the change.
One was above nest box on roof of clinical science and then other flew in, and went just below ledge below nest box and then one on roof moved over to roof on jut of Clincial science.

I thought I posted this , but I guess I forgot. The new male was born in 2004 ,at our downtown Edmonton site. Our other male was an Edmonton male also and I am just trying to find out where he was born. He is a few years older. I am hoping he is O.K.
I never once thought this male was a threat to our chicks. He did defend at banding. He is so similar to Damon. :'( :'( We have never seen any aggression at site ,while we were thre, so this was a shock to see different bands at banding. the chest of this new male is same as Damon, so from the ground we would not have seen a difference.
but my main concern is to get these guys fledged. And this is number one.
They have had a few good feeds today.

I have asked a few people like Carly, ( becasue of different time Zones) from other sites to watch and we have been seeing good feedings and the kids are self feeding also, so no worries.
It does take a global community to raise these guys.

I hope Damon is okay too Bev, he is such an amazing dad and all those chicks he fostered...seriously one of the great ones. I hope we hear of him again soon. Given that Miss E survived and thrived, don't give up hope :-*

I have never worried here but with this new male I will have to wait and see.

I have to leave for a bit and clean my own nest box after these posts. Two weeks of fledge watchng can make a nest dirty ;D ;D

We are starting Sunday morning.
They do not look ready ,but it is day37 on Sunday and I do not want to take any chances. I think our male is the middle to be born, but a lot can happen between now and Sunday.
Some places have had early f ledges.

Peer and d were down last nigh to see what we can see about this male.
He flew in onto College Plaza and stayed for about an hour. when Radisson flew of Heart building he flew Right over to heart building. Radisson came right back. When we left after 10pm they were both still on heart building. Damon always turned in earlier but maybe this male will spend nigh ton Heart.
We will learn more about him at Fledge. I will post a few shots this evening when they are downloaded.

Yes, I know they do not have enough flight feathers yet, but it is day 37. When planning this ,you do not know who is oldest and youngest.
I did not feel they were getting enough meals but now RAdisson is picking it up. Maybe this was her plan so they f ledge closer together.
this will also give us time to really see how this new male is doing. he is 6 years old so he should know what he is doing.and I can see how they are being fed.
Please wish me no drama this year. a quiet year would be nice.
We are up at 4 so we can be there early.

Good luck today Bev - no drama just good karma coming your way. The kids are up and preening this morning. They still have a good bit of fluffies on them but we know how fast that can change! I expect you have a couple of days yet to just relax and get yourselves back in the groove.

All three present and accounted for at the moment - though it is getting harder and harder to differentiate chicks from debris when they are lying down. I had to watch for some time before I found one this morning. ;D

We can't see into our nest box in Brandon so I guess as the saying goes 'Ignorance is Bliss' ;D ;D but I have seen Hurricane take out used carcasses so maybe she has Trey's clean genes :)

Report from July11
We were there just after 5am
Male had food on jut of Clinical science. He flew it over to Radisson on Heart. she circled with it a few times and then quickly dropped it in box and then out,
the both adults sat on the clinical science. Radisson above the kids and the male to the right on top.
I was glad to see male fly over to College plaza ,early afternoon and then Radisson joined him
Lots of nice aerial displays by adults
Some were in front of nest ,I believe teaching maneuvers
Peter went to Horton's and while he was gone , I rescued a young robin. It flew into walkway . When I ran over it was lying there but beak open, so I picked it up and carried it to our chair and it sat and recovered. Peter sprinkled it with a bit of water.
When we approached, to put it on a tree branch it flew off and then I noticed it way across street on sidewalk. So I went and stood by it, so no one would magnificently step on it, and then it eventually flew off. Adult did come and feed it. and i am hoping it is the only rescue we do
THe kids were on the perch, I believe red band and yellow band. It was very windy so we kept telling them to go back in. The females are getting lots of nice flight feathers.
I am hoping red band starts developing more. I am a bit concerned because Radisson is making them self feed and on cam I do not see Red band doing too much and when food is brought in, he does not eat for very long it seems. No one else is concerned ,but I think it is because I have watched for so many years and so many nests that I think he needs to eat more to develop more.
In the afternoon we saw RAdisson go in around 2 and we are not sure if it ws a small food drop or not. the light was bad,
At about 7:30pm, F brought a nice size piece of prey to box . She appeared to feed for about 4-5 minutes and then went out on perch (/We watched her way over on diabetes building preparing and eating food for about 45minutes prior to this)
At one point in late afternoon we saw a red pelican flying about.
I do not think anyone was disappointed that there was not a fledge. It was very windy and kids would have had trouble ,if they had been ready. We were treated to lots of flying by adults.
there was lots of flapping in nest box. the wings are huge.

I have someone going first thing this morning so I can get a few things done and then I am down there.

Great slide show........going to be busy in the next few days. Sure hope the weather smartens up for you to make it a bit easier for the juvies as well as the watchers!! The weather sure has been something all over the country this year! WE have high winds and lots of rain today. But Peter and I will be there . Peter this morning and me this afternoon. We do have a place to watch where it is drier.
Our concern is a kid getting blown off while flapping. I am hoping for no fledging till at least Thursday.
WE are getting reacquainted with things , which is good before fledging.
Seeing as Manitoba's males fledged at day 41 and day42. Our guy will probably do the same
Weather should be better tomorrow.

Adults were hunting right around us yesterday. With the stormy weather yesterday, the pigeons did not know what hit them, in the few breaks we had.
Peter had Radisson stoop a pigeon Right overhead and then watched her defeather. Sorry ,no ground pcitures today. too stormy.
Radisson beak fed the kids twice yeaterday. NIce to see. Dad also brought n 2 feeds for self feeding. I think the idea was to make sure kids stayed inside.
A few times my heart stopped , when kids were wing flapping as it was so windy. It has been a long time since I have seen so much rain.
Both adults spent most of day on clinical science, Radison below ledge of nest box and male above nest box,on roof of clinical. they sometimes had to change to a different spot ,depending on the wind and rain.
One of adults was on moon of Suite hotel, waiting for pigeons ,twice that I saw. I have posted that picture of the moon on hotel before.

Seems that just two days ago there was all this fluff and now they are dark feathers. Amazing how quickly maturity takes place. Good luck chicks in your first flights and also the fledge watchers! ;D

He is doing fine. He has not fledged and did make it inside box at one point, before first rain.
he is now out again and it is raining.
the girls are sure interested in what he is doing.
Peter and Bob and Carol are there right now and I am gong to retire for evening. I will there at first light. Peter will stay until dark.
the adults are doing their darnedest to get him to fly.
Bob took a few short videos which he will give Peter to post.I left my camera at home. ::) ::) ::)

Hi Ellie: I've been checking in to see if Bev or Peter have had a chance to post. I'm anxious to know how the chicks are doing since Bob and I were there on Wednesday night. Looks like red band is out and one of the girls, but I don't know which one. As for the weather, it was semi-pleasant last evening, but then rain through the night. Right now in Edmonton, we're having rain, thunder and lightening. But from my office window, I can see it clearing south of the city, so keep your fingers crossed. Bev and some of the other volunteers are, of course, over at the Clinical Sciences Building now ... in the darned rain.

I can offer an observation from 5-6 AM, albeit from a person with no binoculars :( Saw male chick ( i assume) on ledge flapping. Couldn't see any other chicks out of the box. I think food was dropped in the box. Both adults were there. Storm was coming in fast so i chickened out.

For Ellie and others who are wondering, we have all been taking turns down at the site, and last night it looked like Redband, the male, was about ready to go. He was flapping up a storm outside the nestbox on the ledge, under the close watch of his stepdad and mom. He was running back and forth, testing his wings, his white fluff just flying off. The girls were watching their brother and doing abit of flapping of their own. He will likely fledge either tomorrow or Sunday, at the latest, we think, but Bev is the authority on this, we just hope he and the girls, who will likely fledge a couple days after Redband, will stay put until they are strong enough to handle it. I left the site last night at about 9:15, and Peter was staying until dusk, just in case!
We were lucky last night as it did not rain between 7:00 and 9:30 p.m. But this morning, when Redband might go for it, it is raining with thunder and lightning. What a memorable occasion if he decides (or has decided, people are down at the site as of 5:00 this morning) to make his maiden voyage!

I doubt if anyone can say precisely when the chicks will fledge. It's up to them.

Sorry, I thought I had posted.
yesterday redband spent most of the day on the black netting. He flapped like cxrazy and he went back to box twicel
either adults dropped him food while he was on netting or he brought it there from box.
Yellow band spent a lot of time flapping her wings on front wrung.
Parents tried a few times to get red band to go but he was just enjoying giving me a heart attack on the black mesh.
At about 3:30pm yesterday Red band was making a b-line for box(as adult went there) and he over estimated the distance to perch and fell off left side. I went running as i thought i would have to do a rescue . He managed to flap a bit and get himself of the left corner of ledge, on roof ledge belwo box.
He stayed there a bit and then started catwalking along the ledge. Parents gave him a food drop and he went onto roof and then back up on ledge.
Peter and Elaine, and Lisa and Becky and and Dave took over from me. When Peter left last night red band was in corner of left ledge below box area. Peter said he did a lot of flapping which he needs to get his muscles stronger
I think he would have gone yesterday but the fall scared him. He has more distance to go up now than he did from nest box.

Peter phoned her this morning early , and red band was catwalking along the ledge and Yellow band had gone out on mesh (as parents dropped food to her there)
Blue band was feeding in side.
looking now Yellow band has gone back on mesh and blue band is outside.
It has been raining hard this morning and I have not had a call so red band will still be on ledge.
I did see blue band flapping a lot on wrung this morning.
Red band was behind in his development, and maybe adults did so on purpose. who knows. He is strong now and the ledge is great for him to flap. If I had to rescue him , that is where I would have had to put him.
It is day 42 for the oldest juvenile.(I believe to be yellow band) So red band is at least 41 days old.
Our males have typically fledged much earlier than this but having 2 females as well, might make a difference.
the males in Winnipeg fledged day 41 and 42 this year so he is ready.
and the weather has not cooperated either.
I am going down shortly and if anything happens I will phone Peter.
We will have a few pcitures later

It poured rain here till 12:30pm Certainly not good for fledging.
Red band is dong very well. He is flapping and doing a few jump flies. but at 6pm tonihgt, he did a low fly from one end of ledge to other. then mom came in and beak fed him and left some for him to eat himself. If he does not go tonight ,he will go tomorrow. He is looking so good and so handsome.
I will post pictures as soon as possible but by time Peter gets home he is too tired to download camera.
Yellow band was adoring a lot of flapping on black mesh today and she did a few hop flies on mesh.
Blue band is doing her share of flapping also.
As I am typing blue band went up on roof of nest box, and yellow is on mesh.
I just talked to Peter and red is doing a lot of flying on ledge and is on back of ledge now .
I have to go for a bit and then I will post some some cam picutres

:D As of 9:15 last night, when Carol and I left the site, red had not yet fledged. He made at least 3 short hop/flights along the edge of the roof maybe 30-40 feet in length and as high 10 feet or so. He stayed on the roof below the nest box most of the evening until he decided to hop on the top of some pillars to the left and below the nest box. He had not mustered the courage to fly off the roof by the time we left. Peter and Bev are expecting him to make the leap sometime today. I expect they're both at the site this morning and will probably provide an update later today.

We had a number of people on the ground this morning in expectation that Redband would take off, but as of the time I left the site, about 12:15 MDT, he had not. It seems he would prefer to walk all over the place, instead of fly. Sometimes he scared us as he came so close to falling while doing his walking/running investigation of various areas of the roof. And, despite the encouragement from his stepdad, who was giving him lots of food along various areas of the roof, he refused to go for it.
The girls were curious about their brother's walking tours of the roof, but decided they preferred sunbathing; it is not really warm here today, and there is alot of wind, but at least there is no rain (for now), and the kids seem to be enjoying the sun on their backs. Redband was stretched out like a cat when he was not taking his running/walking constitutional along the edge of the roof.
Mother hardly moved from her perch above them all morning, and she did not feed the females at all while I was there, so I think she is trying to tell them that if they want food, they are going to have to come to her, not her go to them. I am sure they are mulling this over, as they are pretty hungry.
When the females stretch their wings, they look superb; we were thinking that it is possible that they could fledge at the same time, or even before, their brother, which would be rare in the falcon world, but they look so ready to go.
Bev and Peter are still down there, and will be joined by others; Bev expects Redband to go today, and if so, she will be there. She and Peter will report later.

Now young miss is out wingersizing on the rails, and the band I see is so dark I'm assuming blue.

Update - i was there til 3 PM MDT and red band hadn't fledged - things were quiet. He was resting up i guess - not much flapping except by females.

Redband disappears and when we go and find him is on an aerial on side of clinical science. he can get up there an down and flaps like crazy.
He is flapping a lot but the parents are feeding him and so they must not think he is strong enough. He is doing a lot of cat walking and goes of the ledge by hopping to the 3 pillars adjacent to roof. If the silver pillar were not there he would hop all the way to next roof instead of fly ;D ;D

Peter and were there from 5am to 10pm last night just in case.
We are heading down there shortly and I will come back earlier and Peter will stay and then I will write full report.

any of you who have been watching know that Redband was not develping as quickly as he should . He is looking good and so if he f ledges after girls ,so be it. It may be what he needs to get going.
but I am watching for all the signs of him not being well, and there does appear to be anything wrong. Just a little slower.

Mr. Bev here. Just a short note to let you know that Mr. Red Band has fledged. Just got a short call from the sight and he had a strong flight and is not on the south roof of the Clinical Sciences Building. Apparently, it was a strong flight with no problems. I guess the parents knew something that we didn't while the kept feeding him so much. It was, I believe, day 43 for him.
His two sisters should follow soon if the flapping that has been going on is any indication. We will keep you posted and Bev will probably give you all the details tonight when she gets home. I am heading to the sight now to join Bev and will send her home around supper time.

It is like waiting for someone to have a baby and you are on the outside looking in!!! ::) Time just gets sooooo long! The girls look very healthy and will fledge just as strongly I am sure. ;D Keep your strength up all of you. It does get tiring at times I am sure. So far so good ;)

I want to first thank Elaine and Bob and carol for posting when they get home.
I am usually so tired.
Peter will download our camera tonihgt and I will post some of those pictures tomorrow nihgt.
Becky and DAve have some of Red in flight also and We are trying to get Bobs downloaded and posted. It may be slow but I am sure it will be worth it.
I did not see REd bands first flight. Just missed it but saw two and three.
He flew like a pro. Right out from clinical science , over parkade. I thought he was going clear to the CAmpus tower.but he turned and he flew right over the heart builidng and back to Clinical science.
My heart was thumping. I have never seen a juvenile do such a long and strong flight since I have been watching here, for the second flight.
He has spent the rest of the day with his sisters. they will not be far behind.
One thing I have learned. the adults know best. they knew he needed more time.
Way to go. Hope the weather will cooperate. forecast is not great, but we will see.

Hi Everyone:
Mr. Bev here. Bev went down this morning at about 5:00 AM and saw two at the nest box. At first she couldn't find the third one (Mr. Red Band). She went around the area and finally spotted him behind the Clinical Sciences Building perched on top of one of the buildings. She was in an area that was surrounded by buildings. He had to figure out a way to get out. Just before 8:00 AM this morning he figured it out, flew out to the west and around and landed back on the Clinical Sciences Building. He looks great and is flying great. The other two are still flapping and look strong. It is raining here right now, so they may stay put, but you never know with falcons.
We'll keep you posted and when Bev gets a chance she will post pictures, etc.

Hi all! My apologies for not reporting in when we got home last night.
Last evening was fairly uneventful ... except for the fact that we couldn't locate Yellowband, who had fledged yesterday afternoon. Blueband spent most of the evening on the mesh, flapping madly. She's getting in some great flapping practice. Redband made brief appearances, between the MAHI (Heart Bldg) and CSB, but he is flying very confidently.
As the evening wore on, Peter was getting lots of exercise, running behind CSB to count falcons, checking on sightings on other buildings. Still no sign of Yellowband. Then suddenly, when Redband and Blueband were definitely accounted for on CSB, and Peter had seen adults on nearby buildings, there was a very brief flight by someone from the roof of the MAHI to the roof of the CSB. We can only assume it was Yellowband!
Bob and I packed up to come home at 9:15 and then, of course, it got really interesting. Both the adults came flying in to the CSB from different directions, but were very, very vocal -- and not in a good way. They perched on the very top of the CSB, but were definitely not relaxed. Mom, in particular, was quite concerned about something. She would take short, noisy flights around the top/front of the building and then land back on her perch. We couldn't see anything that should be causing concern, but we did wonder if something (read: someone) was happening on the roof.
It was getting dark and cold, so we had to leave. I'm looking forward to hearing what, if anything, happened after we left and where everyone is today.
Here's hoping for a warm, DRY day for Bev & the gang!

Peter took morning off work as I ended up sick. but I am getting ready now to go down
Blue fledged this morning, good flight and is on back of Hospital(across from Tim Hortons) . Good for Peter ;D ;D ;D
Because of Blue flying where she did ,they found Yellow . Yellow is too low and above emergency entrance to hospital. Someone will have eyes on her all day, If she comes down, we will rescue her. Gord said to wait and see if she can right herself.
Red, of course , is on helicopter pad ::) ::)Should not have put red tape on him. Remember red from last year.
Blue has flown 3 times but back to same spot. Parents are trying to lure them back to nest area.
Dave was down there and graciously consented to stay till I got there so we have all birds covered.
We wait now and see. We have to watch for food drops now.
And Peter has box ready ,in case. Yellow may be too afraid as that entrance is so busy.
all secured know where all 3 birds are and are keeping eyes open also.
I am out now.

Really sad news to report tonight.
I arrived for my shift this evening, to find out that Yellowband had died. Peter and Becky were at the site, and said that while Yellow was above the Emergency entrance, he was spooked by people in the buildings, and ran into the window trying to escape, and broke his neck.
I expect Bev will report more later, when she is feeling up to it. I think I speak for all of us in saying that this has been tough for us to handle.
In more positive news, both Yellow and Blue were alive and well on the Clinical Sciences Building when we left tonight; they both seemed to be getting good height and distance in these, their very early flights.
And we wish them a happy and uneventful night.

Thanks for posting, Elaine. It was sad indeed, but at least, unlike last year, we have the comfort of knowing. Bob and I had stopped by for a short visit after work and that's when we found out. At that point, Blueband was sitting on a stone post above the spot where Yellowband's body had been found. That was very sad. We were kind of worried about Blue. But then she flew up to the roof of the MAHI and seemed that all was well. We walked over to the other side where Peter and Becky were and watched as Redband chased his mom around. He's a great flyer!
We'll be back for our regular shift after work today ... keeping my fingers crossed for an uneventful day.

Good Morning Everyone. Mr. Bev here.
I see in reviewing some of the posts that you have already heard the sad news. I'll just give you a little update and more of the days events.
To start off with, We had lost yellow on Monday and couldn't find him. When I went to the site in the early morning on Tuesday (as Bev was really sick - bad hamburger). I still could only see the two chicks. Suddenly "Blue" flew around "Maz" building and onto the hospital. She had been bouncing around on the netting and fell off and basically was forced to fly. She had a great first flight - landing was not the greatest but thats to be expected. It was almost like a divine intervention as while observing "Blue", I noticed some movement over to the right and lower down on the hospital. Closer inspection revealed "Yellow" perched on a window ledge. Now we had all three again. "Yellow" moved around the hospital window ledges and unfortunately ended up on the roof of the emergency. It is a low roof and made for easy observation but was really too low. I contacted the biologist, who suggested we monitor her closely. So to better monitor her we talked the hospital security to get us access to the windows to the roof. This roof is walled on three sides with offices. When we looked through the window she was laying there on the roof. What I think happened was that she was caught in the area and when the people were moving around in the area she got spooked and tried to fly and flew into the wall, breaking her neck.
I know its sad news but unfortunately thats how nature works some times. She is now with "Swoop" (columbus chick who fell to her death earlier this year) soaring those eternal skies.
"Blue", and "Red" are doing well. "Red" is the eternal "stinker" as he was last year divebombing her sister on her maiden flight and knocking Mom off her perch continually. Mom will eventually tune him in, I'm sure. They are both eating and flying really well. Now its not so much watch time as chase time as Bev and the rest of the watchers will be running to keep up with them. "Red" is already chasing mom across the skies for food and soon will be taking it from her. All part of the training.
Bev, when she gets a chance tonight will be posting some pictures, I'm sure. "Yellow" was turned over to the biologist, who invited Bev to the banding of "Miss Edmonton's" first chick in a few years.
She laid four eggs but only one hatched. Exciting for Bev as this was her first female that she watched. The biologist also managed to capture her and take off her transmitter. So she will be flying more free. So with bad news and tears comes good news too.

Great news on Miss Edmonton having her transmitter removed, hopefully that will allow her to return earlier next year - I guess we'll see now if that was affecting her migration pattern. I'm glad that at least one of her eggs has hatched and I"m sure Grandma Bev will enjoy being there for the banding.

Bev just called from the site. Both Red and Blue are flying great. Starting to venture further and further and taking more flights. Red seems to want to play tag with Blue, but she doesn't want any part of that right now.

I am just back from the site.
When I called Peter and he told me yellow was O.K. yesterday , I was elated. then when he gave me the update I was crushed. Some thing else mus t have happened to her that she ended up where she did on Monday night. She was our out in front peregrine this year. She had strong flights when we saw her fly in Monday. But I got to see her afterward, and through the tears , I had closure. I knew we did our best. She was so beautiful. My heart went out to my Peter because this was not the rescue he had in mind. Thank-you for all your kind words :-* :-*. but I have accepted the loss and I am glad we found her and that we were able to give her dignity at the end.
The hardest thing was watching Blue yesterday. She would not leave that area. Kept flying to different parts of the hospital area and then ended up on the stone pillar above ,where Yellow band dies. The adults were flying around looking and calling for here also.
She is flying free with Swoop now. She had a chance to taste the wind beneath her wings, and for that I am grateful.
Today, my heart stopped a few times. Red is flying so well and becoming a real dare devil. He swoops and chases after the adults. He loves the antennae. Blue band is also flying strong. She does not want to play tag yet and Red constantly teases her. When you loose sight , you hold your breath until they come back. A lot of running though, to see were they are.
We are noticing a real difference with a new male. Our kids were never in the area that Yellow band ended up yesterday. He is not as hands on. When the kids fly , no one is with them . Damon used to fly with them and go underneath ,if he had to. But we will all adjust to this and I hope they are soon taken over to the safer area.
We hold our breath when the helicopter comes in.
I have some chores to do and if I have time I will enter the Pictures and fix them up and post them.
Many thanks to the people coming out to help us. But fledge watch is not an easy thing.
I will also post some picutres taken by DAve(a fledge watcher) of bands first flight.
I forgot to mention that Blue band was on top of box today (to escape from reds teasing) :lol: :lol: and REd spent quite some time on the black netting.

She is trying to escape red Band. He loves her though. the night yellow was missing they snuggled together in the box and beak touched, and kept each other company.

I think Blue was too pooped to eat. She had an amazing flight. She stood on top of the Maz for the longest time, flapping and then suddenly decided to go for it, and fly she did ... over to College Plaza, did a little loop-da-loop and then headed back to the Maz, except by that time, Red got into the act and decided to chase her back, so the homestretch was a little more "intense" than she'd planned. LOL After that, she was just flattened out on the roof of the nest box.
Red took a little rest and then went back to his hi-jinx. He's a character. Bev, how about next year, don't let them red-band anyone. Red bands = bad news (but in a good way). Mom and Blueband won't be forgiving forever. Watch out Redband. You might not like pay-back much.
Anyway, for Bob and I, it was a great evening. It made up for the hours of standing in the parkade watching soaking wet falcons through the pouring rain. It was a spectacular evening, so much good flying (drama free). Thanks to Peter -- we enjoyed your company ... as always.

Thursday july22
the first thing we do is try and spot the 2. Sometimes they can be quite elusive. but thanks to everyone's good eyes, we eventually do
Blue slept the whole morning on the netting. I think she was tired out from all her flying the night before.
Red put on a show most of the day. He soared the thermals with mom and dad. he has learned well. sometimes he comes a bit low becasue I think he has done too much but he gets back up.
He is a cheeky little guy. Makes us all laugh ,which is what we all need, right now.
In the afternoon Blue decided to fly. She came so low , I thought I might have to rescue her. I think the wind tunnels between the 2 buildings caught her. Quite.breezy yesterday.
She really had to work it to get on top of Extension building. (across from Windsor Plaza. Froona ended up there ,last year also. My heart stopped a few times.
After 3/4 of an hour she turned and flew up and around the heart building. She had to go back and do this 3 times to gain the height she needed and then voila, up to top of campus tower. She called and called for food but Red got fed on opposite top corner ,from where mom always is. They were not babying her. These guys are tough parents. She did not get fed till she could make it there.
Peter said they both flew very well last night and of course, Red wanted to play. Blue isn't as ready yet. that is when you saw Blue come to the box last nihgt. she wanted to rest.
A big storm blew in and so Peter went back down and checked on them. They were in top left corner of Jut .
I am going to do a slideshow right now of yesterday and then do today's report . Peter is still there so I will up date it if need be.

Viewers flock to watch falcons
Baby peregrine falcons are being watched from around the world, as the chicks learn to fly near their University of Alberta nest.
Each day hundreds of viewers from as far as England, Germany and the United States have been watching the three five-week-old falcons online, born atop the clinical sciences building.
"It's popular. A lot of people get very attached to these birds," said Ian Moore, of the Students' Union at the U of A.
The webcams offer three views, one inside the nest and two outside.
Since Sunday, volunteers have also been keeping a close eye on the birds -- born June 5 and 6 -- as they begin to fly, said Moore.
If the fledglings run into trouble learning to fly, a volunteer contacts a biologist who then returns the falcon to the nest.
Peregrine falcons -- capable of reaching speeds of more than 320 km/h, making it the fastest animal in the world -- were nearly extinct due to the use of now-banned chlorine pesticides such as DDT.
Populations have since recovered but are still threatened, with about 50 peregrine falcon mating pairs in the province.
Last year, more than 14,000 people viewed the webcam, which helps educate people about urban wildlife, said Moore.
"Not a lot of people know about the extent and diversity of wildlife that exists in Edmonton," he said.

We do, indeed, have good news concerning Ms Blue and Mr, Red. Carol and I watched the festivities during our Friday evening shift with Mr. Bev, Becky and Dave. The excitement that night included an episode where mama flew towards the chicks with food dangling from her talons. Mr Red jumped off his perch and started to chase her. He's turned into a very strong flyer and he is using his games to learn how to hunt. Then we watched as an intruder (another peregrine) came within range of the nestbox and the two parents took off after it and engaged in an aerial dogfight: the parents attacked, dive-bombed the intruder at least eight times until the intruder gave in and left the area. Had it not given up, the parents would have killed it. There were other flights where all four peregrines were on the wing.
We dropped our daughter off at work at the UofA hospital and took advantage of being in the neighbourhood to drop in on Elaine and Bev who were doing the Saturday afternoon shift. Miss Blue was over on College Plaza engaged in a Mexican standoff with her mother over some food that we sitting on one of the ledges while Mr. Red stood on a balcony of a nearby apartment building. We didn't witness any air time but Bev indicated that Red and one of the parents were riding thermals earlier in the day and went so high they were out of sight.

Defense of the chicks tends to be an all-hands-on-deck thing ... and I assume that is the case out in Edmonton as well!! Nice to hear Radisson & her new mate seem to be such a very good parental team!

Bev, Peter and I were down at the site all afternoon. When I arrived, Blue and Red were both sitting on the edge of a balcony on Windsor Place, but shortly after, they apparently decided that despite the heat today, they wanted to race around the skies, as only the young can do, and we were all treated to a wonderful flying display. Red is a real show-off who enjoys jumping all over his sister in flight and scaring her, but Blue is now getting her "legs", and she is able to play with him. Now, she is doing "pay-back", and she was up and over him like a pro. Although she is still not as adept as her brother, give her a couple more days, and she will be showing him a few in-flight tricks.
A little later, we were again treated to the Mexican stand-off on College Plaza, but this time, it was between Step-dad and Red and a piece of food. After all the testosterone settled down, the two of them seemed to be content to call it a draw, with Step-dad on one ledge, and Red on the ledge below him. Blue was over on a balcony at Windsor Place, ignoring all these proceedings, and mom was around, but not showing herself.
At one point, while Blue was resting on the balcony, some people came out on a near-by balcony, and Bev was the one putting on the display this time; I think they decided it would be a better idea to stay inside instead of face the wrath of Bev.
My day there ended with me locking my keys in the car, so the dogs and I had some extra time to watch the falcons; alas, the falcons were not interested in putting on another show for my benefit.

I will have a nice report tomorrow with more picutres. We were doing double duty yesterday, babysitting my grandson and watching the birds so no time for reports.
Kids are flying well. Peter just phoned and Red just took food from moms talons and flew off. . He had no camera as my daughter borrowed it for a wedding :-(
Peter is down there alone as he wanted me to come home. So I cut the grass :roll:
I was so proud of Blue today for the way she was flying. Way up and giving red as good as she got.
If I have time tonight I will come back in.
I also went to banding of Miss Edmonton's chick and will do a slide show later also. (in a few days)

The last couple of days have been a real treat. We did lots of running but the kids are giving us a lot of laughs.
I thought after the loss of Yellow Band , I would not be able to enjoy the rest of the season, :'( but seeing her gave me the closure I needed and Red and Blue restored my faith.
Red could fly from the first flap of his wings. He is a tease and all boy. Blue ,for the most part , is more reserved.
She does enjoy her siestas.
Yesterday, we had a lot of laughs at her expense. She had a huge piece of prey on the ledge at College plaza. When mom came in to either, help her , or try and get a few bites, Blue mantled and screamed . There was a standoff for over and hour and a half.
I think she even nipped mom at one point, as Radisson seemed to limp for a bit.
After Peter watched Radisson beak feed Blue this evening, I think Radisson was trying to help her yesterday. Radisson was very patient.
Today , Blue grew leaps and bounds. Her flying was great. She went way up, soaring , and she gave Red as good as he gave. She put the chase on him a few times. ;D ;D

Last night Peter thought a young hawk needed rescuing but it flew off and hit heart building , a bit, and so he tried again and it flew off to a tree by where we watch. It may have been a young coopers hawk. After thinking about it today, we have had a coopers hawk hanging around(adult) .I think the young one may have just been seeking the pigeon leftovers. But Peter was not sure if it was O.K. or not.
I t was unusual ,as far the adults went ,today. Only ever saw mom , but Peter saw another tonight , just before leaving. I will keep my eyes open as we did have an intruder 2 nights ago. both adults took aim at it for quite awhile until it left the territory. Nothing is safe around our kids. they escort the ravens out also.
We better be careful, or they will be ushering us out as well.
the kids have been spending a lot of time on balconies at Windsor Park, but they go to the nest box also. Red was on the black mesh today.
How can one not admire these wonderful raptors. :-* :-*

I was there from 6AM TO 5PM Today.
Man, oh man. what a day. ::) ::)
Red is just a going concern. He was out with mom by Newton apartment. Just like a pro he flew straight up the building and down, rooting out the pigeons. That is what they do , in order to fly after them and catch them. But he loves to chase gulls, better
No one will ever convince me that these are not Damons chicks. :-*: :-* I am sure they are. Red has the taste for gulls ,just like his dad. He nearly got one today. He just went after and after it. You heard it make a shriek and then fly off.
Red and Blue really did a lot of flying, Once again my heart was thumping. :wow: I think Red who has just been flying 8 days today, is not leaving any stone unturned.
But at one point today, after all his flying, he could not get height and when I found him, he was lying lower than I had ever seen him. Red flew done to join him. I kept my eye on him, and I guess he was jsut exhausted and after he rested , up he flew and made it to top ledge of Campus Tower.
Then when he was flying way up above Campus tower he was dive bombed by a coopers hawk. Mom was on the other side of building in a ledge ,so I do not know if she was aware. But Red gave as good as he got. the kept going at each other and then Red finally ran it off.
O f course, I can be vocal. :cheer I thought no on was up on roof, and I am talking a bit loud, Mom ,go help your son. I turned around and there is a couple going to their car. ;D ;D
Well I am not far from the hospital :)
A Coopers hawk has been coming in quite a bit. Must have a nest near by.
Now if this was not enough for my heart, Blue and Red started playing tag around and in and out of the buildings.
A storm started to come in and lots of wind gusts. Red landed on a to ledge with difficulty but Blue could not and ended up on Heart building.But she really wanted to be with Red so she took off again and was blown all over. She finally ,with much difficulty ,landed on clinical science. ( Peter phoned me to tell me, that it was Blue on ledge and Red on clinical. A switch - a- roo took place that I did not see. ) Heart must have stopped for a bit ;) ;)
these guys are really flying circles. I was alone for 5 hours today, and so you really can get turned around.
Peter and the rest of the nihgt crew are still down there so I will wait till he gets home and update in the morning.
If I have time I will post photos from July18, 19. and 20. We will try and download videos for next week.
Daughter still has camera so we are missing great shots, but kids come first( or do they ;D ;D )

I do not think I will have time for a good report and picutres til next Tuesday. In the midst of all of this I have a family reunion to prepare for in Sask and we leave bright and early tomorrow morning.
but I promise lots of pictures and a good report when I come back.
But our fledge has officially ended but we do have quite a few who enjoy , like we do, going out now and watching the kids learn to hunt .
REd male and Blue female are doing so well. We know that Red can take food from moms talons but we are not sure about blue yet. But she has only been flying 9 days, today.
They are amazing to watch. yesterday blue was harassing mom for food. She flew right up to her ledge several times. Eventually ,Blue went where there was a small snack and ate. she is gorgeous.
Even in the wind yesterday, they were sticking all the high aerials.
Just wish I could educate some of the public better. But I guess there will always be those who just do not care.( guess it is not important to them to keep nature at its best).
We have had mom and dad usher out a few intruders of different species.
I wil leave it hee for now and will do a better write up next week and aklso keep y9u appraised as they venture furthere out.
I will also write a report for Weber next week with picutres of the banding I was at there , with my Miss Edmonton.

Finally a report. august 4, 2010
Our falcons ,at Clinical Science, are doing well. I want to thank-you for all your kind words. We could not do this with out the support of other volunteers, like Becky and Dave, and Elaine and Carol and Bob and Barb and Lisa, and Rosemarie, and the list goes on. This can only continue ,as Long as we have support.
On August 4, Peter and I went down ,but the camera was out of juice . We did see our family of 4 though. Blue female was on the extension buidlding and then along came dad . She knocked him off and then flew to the back south side of Newton apartments. Dad proceeded to defeather some prey, and eat on the extension buidlding. Blue must have been full ,as she did not argue.
We walked around and found Radisson , on vents of chi-ching building(building across from EArls) . this was a favorite spot of hers last year. We found Red male ,on a tower adjacent to Eduction parking lot. He was there for a bit and tried to stoop a few pigeons and then flew off the south. when we walked back, Radisson was in same spot , Blue was still in her spot and DAd had moved to the moon ,on suite hotels.

August 5.
Becky and Cave had texted Peter and told him they had seen Radisson and Blue on back of Education building.
We were at WEber building putting up posters and checking things out.
then we went to Clinical science and spent a few hours.
At first no one was in sight. We walked all over. so we had a bite to eat.
when we came out, Blue was on back of Newton apartments and across form her, on a set of Red and cream aprtments, at the back ,was Red.(will have to find name of those).
Blue then flew off and circled around Red, and then flew off in direction of Heart building. I went walking and then I saw the both of them playing in the air over the heart building. Up to this point ,they were both so quiet. but they were vocal as they played. What a sight to see. Peter was having problems with the camera so did not get shots of this. they were in rare form and then flew off west.
We walked and looked and then went up to our parking lot and in flew dad. He perched on back south corner of College plaza. After a bi the flew around back and we later saw him tucked in for the night.
In flew Red, cacking up a storm. He flew in where dad had been, and then flew around and we left him perched on an aerial on north side of COllege plaza. He had flown around where dad was sleeping for night , making a lot of noise. We wee sure it was hm by his sound but then got band.
WE saw a falcon land on cranes further out but not sure who, as it was dark
On our way home the sun was glorious. a few shots of that as well
On Friday night BEcky and Dave saw our two youngsters on their way to football game. We will go done sometime today.

I have not downloaded pictures from recent visit as I am doing a mini fledge watch at Weber.
but last night after the Weber Peter and I blew through campus and were treated to both youngsters chasing an adult that had food in its talons. This was behind the education building.Red band male is such a squealer . Blue is more reserved. Red rested on the back of the Ed building and adult was not far away. then out of no where ,blue flew in and the chase was on. Peter went to follow them and spotted an adult coming out of the vent behind Ed building. I am assuming mom, as they were there last year.
It was hard to tell who got the food. They then put on an aerial display but it was hard to get pictures of that.
One gentleman stopped to let us know one of the kids was stooping gulls but was not successful. that was probably Red ;D ;D ;D
we saw all 4 falcons and that always puts a smile on my face. :) :)
I will post a few shots of what I have when downloaded.
I am always happy when they get to the Ed building. Much more open.

I am finally starting to update.
I will start with yesterdays activities.
On Friday Aug 20, Blue band female needed to be rescued. I did not post as I did not want to alarm anyone. I was bad enough :).
What happened is that she landed in an exhaust fan at the Swine research facility at the U of A farm. This is quite a distance from Clinical science. The folks there, turned off the fans right away, when they heard her. They immediatley phoned one of our biologists at the Uni, who in turn phoned Gord. ( I have to add here, that last Thursday and Friday we had a lot of smoke in our area due to fires in B.C. The winds carried them here and at times it was hard to see. I am thinking she may have not seen where she was landing. I am also thinking that this may have been what caused Red deer males accident also. It was hard to breathe at times also. )
She was extracted and Gord took her to his home. He hosed her down. (one foul smelling bird, he said ;D ;D I wonder why ;) ;) . but he said she appeared to be in good shape and he would observe her over the weekend and probably release her on Monday(yesterday). so we waited.
Luckily she only had one primary feather missing in tail but other than that was in good shape. Gord tethered her and took her bands off as he does not like them in metal cages. (They should not have bands on when they are tethered) I learned a lot of things this year from Gord.
So at about 2:20pm yesterday, Peter and I were invited to see her off with Gord. Becky , one of our fledge watchers, who is doing research at the Uni, just happened to be out looking for the guys, so we invited her to come and watch.
What a thrill. Gord released her from on top of parkade where we watch the falcons. He had a hood on her when we arrived and then asked me to hold her as he had to put bands on her.OMG I was just so excited. Then he had to put another band on her but he had to remove tethers. Peter held her then as I felt he was stronger. Did not want her to fly away with the hood on. this was indeed a highlight for us all. Her new bands are 98

then Gord took her,and put her on his glove . He took off the hood. what a gorgeous falcon. Love at first sight. Dad (who had been on the moon of the Suite hotel ) flew over to ledge of college plaza. We were not ready for her to go when she did but she just flew with the wind. It was windy. she flew off south, into the wide open spaces Sorry no pictures of that as we all watched to make sure she could get height and fly. She just went with the wind and could fly into it . she kept flying higher and turned back towards us. Gord was so pleased with her flying. The missing primary feather did not affect her at all. Mom and Dad went after her at first. It was a concern. They chupped at her , and gave chase, a few times but she just kept cacking and coming back. We were all just holding our breaths.But finally they recognized her and she flew up on to Heart building roof . In a bit she flew over to a ledge on College plaza and there was some lunch. Gord was wondering what she was dong there. And we told him ,there was usually a meal on those ledges.
Shortly after Red band came flying in cacking. We heard him before we saw him. He was on top of heart building and he was cacking at mom who was on top of Clinical science building. Dad was back on moon on Suite hotel. He then flew over to extenison building ,(adjacent form Blue band)still cacking. I think Blue ate his lunch :) :)
We lost sight of REd when we went to ground level but Blue was still on ledge when we left.
I will post the pictures and then I will start and do back reporting and post picutres. We knew Red was still around as we saw him Sunday night .

Oh my gosh, Bev -- that's fabulous. What a wonderful opportunity for you. Peter, Becky and Gord. I gotta admit -- I'm envious. But after all the hours you've put in, you well deserve the reward of getting to "hold" her.
Bob was flying to Nova Scotia on Wednesday evening, so en route to the airport we stopped for a bite to eat at Rodeo Burger (because it is, after all, the only place in all of Edmonton where you can get something to eat LOL). Since we just happened to be in the neighbourhood, we took the opportunity to scan the sky and the surrounding buildings. Nothing. That is until we were walking back to our car, and suddenly we heard that familiar sound in the sky. We looked up to see the two kids chasing each other in back of the Maz and over around CSB. It was great.

Oh, Bev, what a thrill! Blue looked like a blue-blood, as she is! I would love to some day have the opportunity to hold a wild falcon! I am very happy for you, Peter and Becky, and I am so glad that Blue was able to be rescued so quickly and efficiently, and to be released without problems!

Just read the story about "blue" and am sad and happy all in one breath. What a "freakish" accident and how lucky to have her rescued so quickly. Thank you so much for letting all of us share in the happenings and all the wonderful pictures. She truly is a beautiful falcon!! ;D Thank you again!

My computer is really acting up and so Peter and I hope to be able to get things ironed out so I can post lots of pictures from clinical science and WEber. I have been saying all year, wait till the season is over and then conk out. Well it is starting to really go. But we will have a new one for next season
But :
We saw mom and dad and we believe Blue last night.( Blue we think by size and sound) Have not seen Red since Friday nihgt but that does not mean he is not there. We had to make a trip to Weber so he could have come in later. We have had so much rain that he may have holed up somewhere.
This is the time of year that is hard for me. It is so quiet and I long to hear the squawking :lol: :lol: Blue just gave out a few cacks as she flew in beside mom last night and mom immediately flew off and went over to med building. ( mom had been on the south aerial of college Plaza and Blue landed right beside her.) But when dad came in and landed on the top south corner of Newton apartments , I was so thrilled. To see both adults together and not far away from each other, is something we have not seen for awhile. Now we know things are winding down. We watched until dad turned in for the night.
Blue had not moved when we left.
Peter and I will continue to monitor till we leave on a holiday Sept17. by then the kids will be gone but adults will still be here.

I bet you thought I had forgotten my foremost site. Not a chance. We have been monitoring here as well. Most of action was happening at Weber but I could never forget, Radisson and male adult and Blue and Red.
It has been a rough year here with the loss of Damon and a juvenille and a rescue and release . But these guys have given us a lot of fun and joy.
LAst Tuesday : sept 6
Blue and Red were still around. One got food from one of the adults on education building. I think the male adult delivered the food . the kid ate like there was no tomorrow.
Mom was on the netting by nest box when we arrived. Dad came in chupping a bit later and flew around and then perched on aerial of Suite Hotel.. A youngster ,who we think was Red, came in also and landed on ledge of Windsor building. this is the youngster that we eventually saw eating on education building.
We walked around the area and found a youngster on back of education building extension. I believe it was the one that had eaten. We think Red.
When it flew off it caked and another youngster (we think Blue)flew on cacking. Probably looking for left overs. (an adult flew on also)
When I looked around I saw it(blue) on an aerial cacking up a storm. It then flew south.
We kept walking and found one youngster on south side of Clincial science cacking like crazy. there was an adult up on west ,top ledge of college Plaza . We think this was Blue cacking. It was non stop. Brought tears to my eyes, After what seemed an eternity, the adult flew off around suite hotel with kid after it cacking. the youngster flew around back of Newton still cacking and then the cacking stopped. There was no sign of anyone so we were hoping the kid was on roof eating somewhere.
When we left there was one adult on aerial of college Plaza and then it turned in for night. Do not know where others were.

7 pm
When we got there, one falcon was on crane on south of campus.
but when we were driving to Weber we saw one youngster on back of Ed building.
Then a falcon, flies from West by crane, to East ,past Newton apartments. so now we have 2
Now one on crane disappears and there is one on aerial of Windsor apartments. . I t flies around and then goes back to aerial. Then it flies off south. Peter said it was as if it was saying good-bye. :'(
Then we see one fly in over Windsor and perch on ledge of Windsor facing East(could this be one that flew off???)
We drive around as it is very cold and dark.
We see a juvenille on crane by Jubilee auditorium. Can see better with binoculars that camera.
Adult male (by size) flies in and starts calling . Not chupping so we know there is an intruder somewhere, by the sound. It dive bombs the end of the crane where a screened box is. Peter walks over that way ,while I watch the youngster. The adult continues , making noise and flying around and dive bombing.
Peter sees a Raven in the box, at end of crane. :o that explains everything. It must have been bothering the kid.
adult male then lands on crane to left of youngster.
After a bit they both fly south west behind cranes. Adult comes back and lands on crane. Raven eventually leaves. and then adult flies off.
I must say ,we never have dull moments. :) :)

Sept 14 clinical science building.
This is my last visit here till after my get away. Once again , I did shed a few tears that night. so many highs and lows and I am used to being here to say good bye to them all. the kids and the adult male will be gone when I get back but Radisson should still be here unless she gets scared off by the predicited snow for the weekend
When we arrived at 5:30pm one falcon was on the crane out beyond clinical science. We know now it was Radisson.
We walked around and when we came back we heard cacking. I looked up and there was a youngster and the male adult on a ledge on college Plaza. We never were quite sure who it was. Peter felt it was Blue. I am not sure. I tried to look at size difference, but with it being such a dismal day , lighting was poor. and the youngster would not let us look at its leg. ;) ;)
Dad had some prey and was not sharing with the kid. Maybe the kid had eaten earlier. The youngster continued to cack but did not rush dad for food. This tells me ,it had eaten. Dad continued to defeather and have some bites.
Then dad flew off ledge and landed on north side of Extension building. Youngster never bothered to follow. RAdisson then flew in from crane to Extension building and she proceeded to eat while adult male watched. When she was done it was adult males turn. All this time youngster cacks off and on.
The adult male flies off over heart building and perches on east side of Medical science building.
The youngster flies off and goes over heart and flies over by the adult male and they fly around. We see he or she has a good crop.
Radisson stays put and she eventually flies off and we think she turned in on ledge of Windsor.
When we leave at dark, there is one falcon on top north ledge of Windsor and one falocn 3 down . we think the one 3 down was a kid.
We saw 3 that night and so I bid my farewells.
When I come back I will go and see if Radisson is there.
I will also go back and post pictures that have not been seen yet. there are some good ones.
and then I will do a summary of year.
I find this time of year empty.

As of Oct 4 we have only seen RAdisson. I had a report from Becky and she said the adult male was there for sure on Sept 29 and she has only seen Radisson since Oct 1. That sounds right on. Similar to other years, but with a different male ,you never know.
Radison was on aerial of Windsor building when we arrived . She then went to ledge facing north, as if to turn in. Then I did not see her and when I turned around , she was on an aerial on south east corner of Clinical science. As Peter said. she does this at the end. she goes to all the places she has roosted. Like planting a memory in her head.
then she flew off strong and turned in for the night. I tried to get her flying but she was so quick, but strong. right over us, she flew. A lump was in my throat, and a few tears in my eyes.
We will keep coming till she is gone.
So so quiet now

Thank you for the update and the photos of our Radisson, I miss seeing her on cam. Everytime I've looked I've not caught her for weeks now.
She's a beautiful girl and I am counting on seeing her again next spring...without crows in tow :P
