2022 NESTING SEASON

Male - Teeva
Female - Geanie

Three eggs for sure, maybe four eggs - three chicks fledged for sure = Finn (m), Lucy (f) & Penelope (f)

2021 NESTING SEASON

Looks like new birds here this year ...

Male = Wilma - and yes, I checked that out, bird was banded as a female but obviously not  :D
Female = unnamed female

They had three chicks, which apparently weren't named.  1 male chick and 2 female chicks.

Haven't found any news stories on the pair, chicks or nest.  Maybe not surprising given it was the middle of the pandemic.

Thank you for the family tree, TPC. I am always interested in the ancestry of the birds.

I am not sure which of the three visiting males has taken this nest. It is very sad that Triumph has not returned. I did not see any reports or photos of Triumph in San Antonio this past winter, so I had been wondering if something had happened to him on his way south.

I read that "last year's female" had returned to the Multifoods nest, so that would be Genie.

Today, the first egg was laid:

I didn't know where else to put this. ???

New male at the Multifoods tower, Minneapolis. This is a 2 year old male that fledged from Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The band number looks to be black/red H/78 or 79.

April 1:

The Minnesota field team has had a busy three days, so stay tuned for a full report later on tonight, but until then we hope you enjoy this video of yet the Third male to show up at 33 South 6th Street / multifoods Tower in Minneapolis. He was really going to town trying to get the female to come off a neighboring building and join him in the Box.

A third male??

The resident male, Triumph (banded black/red 58/P), has not yet returned to his nest at Multifoods, but another male has arrived. There is still time for Triumph to return, and I hope he will.

As of March 20:

At the Multifood Tower nest box high above downtown Minneapolis, the identity of the tierce has been verified to be 5-year old "Morse", who is new to this site. Only time will tell if the usual resident male, "Triumph" will return and try to reclaim this top-notch territory. The female has yet to be identified.

Morse, born at the City Hall Minneapolis nest in 2014, is banded black/red N/45. His father is Bor, banded black/green 03/N, born at the Monticello Plant nest in 2003, and his mother is Dot, banded black/green M/56, born in 2007 at the Black Dog nest site.

Triumph and Genie have three chicks this year, and today the chicks were banded. All three are male.

Triumph with his chicks:

Genie (or Geanie, according to today's spelling); she is gorgeous.

The three chicks with, left to right: Mike Gabriel, Dr. Pat Redig and Josh Albers.

It has now been confirmed by Jackie Fallon that Triumph and Genie are still the resident pair.

They are incubating four eggs.

Hey Alison - do we know if Younger & his unbanded mate are back here again this year?
Now that they have an egg, hopefully the parents have shown enough leg for their identities to have been confirmed ... maybe ... hopefully ?

TPC, I think you meant to ask if Triumph and Genie are back this year?

Younger was found dead in Minneapolis on March 17 of 2016. His injuries were consistent with having been in a territorial battle.

I did ask about this on another site when the first egg was laid, but have not heard anything back so far. Not enough resolution to be able to see or read bands on the webcam at this stage.

Did you say Goldie? Fargo thinks she died maybe you should let them know
they probably would be excited to know she is still alive ;D  this is so great

Goldie did not return to Fargo in 2002. Peregrine falcons are highly territorial and will almost always return to a site where they have successfully bred. Therefore, it must be assumed that Goldie did not survive her third winter.

The female at the Multi-foods is Gypsy, Goldie's grand-daughter.  As far as I know, we haven't seen Goldie past her single year in Fargo.

Here's the lineage ...

MF-1 at Multifoods Tower, Minneapolis, MN
-- Maud (& Pop) at Radisson Hotel, Winnipeg, MB
---- T-Rex (& Burnsie) at U of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB
------ Winnie (& Zeus) at Woodmen Towers, Omaha, NB
-------- Goldie (& Dakota Ace) at Community First Bank, Fargo, ND
---------- Copper (& Lewis) at Champion International Paper Mill, Sartell, MN
then moved to (now at) St Cloud Correctional Facility, St Cloud, MN
------------ Gypsy (& unidentified male) this year at Multifoods Tower, Minneapolis, MN
2008 Lock & Dam 1, Minneapolis - resident female Amelia died
2009 Riverside Plaza, Minneapolis - resident female Phoebe died

Wow what a convoluted family tree. It has the makings of a soap opera. Thanks for sorting it  out for us.

2010 NESTING SEASON

Okay, here's a blast from the past plus some new stuff ... this is a note I posted last year (if you want to see more of the conversation, click on the link)

From the Omaha nestsite = Did you know that before Hera, Zeus was paired with Winnie, and yes, Winnie as in Winnipeg.  She was another kid of T-Rex (Trey's Dad - they are half-sibs) from the University of Manitoba Campus.  Doorly in Topeka is one of their kids.  Hope his mate is one of Amelia's kids and Amelia is a full sib of Madame, Trey's Mom.

Was doing some more family tree work and here it goes ... Maud our original wild-nesting female is from the Multi-foods Tower in Minneapolis.  Her first nest in 1989 produced T-Rex.  In 1994, T-Rex by Burnsie (his second mate - after Madame in 1991 and before Madame again in 1995) produced Winnie who was paired with Zeus (yes Woodmen Tower Zeus) and they produced a whole whack of chicks in their 4 years together.  Of them a number have or still hold territories: Husker, Tower, Goldie and Doorly.  I'm looking at Goldie right now - she was paired with Dakota Ace for 1 year and she produced Copper, Cash & Fargo.  Copper went on to produce Gypsy (among others) who is kind of notorious, it appears she may have killed a resident female named Amelia in Minneapolis (not Omaha's Amelia), then she appears to have dispatched another Minneapolis resident female (Phoebe) before pairing up with her mate Frisco.  Last fall, Gypsy was spotted at the Multifoods Tower with an as yet unidentified male, perhaps the resident male here.  It should be noted that of the Multifoods Tower female from last year, there is no sign ...

Talk about a circle if she nests there this year - 20 years after Maud nested in Winnipeg, her great-great-great-grand-daughter is the resident female!!
