We finally were able to get to this year's nestsite and yes, Beau and Jules are trying to nest this year.  Four eggs have been laid, don't know if any of them will turn out to be viable in the end but two I think are iffy, two are possibles.

We have installed a nest tray under the eggs and Jules took to it within minutes so no worries there.  The location is sheltered but the substrate is poor so the eggs haven't had any real protection.  The nest tray (aka tuppernest) has solved that problem.  We will just have to see what happens.

And yes, we can "see" we have installed two cameras for monitoring purposes only - just like last year, we will not be streaming this nestsite to the 'net.

Its a waiting game now.

Oh, this is such good news, to hear that Beau & Jules have finally nested and layed some eggs! ;D Fingers crossed that maybe a few of them will be viable. Great news, also, that you were able to install a tuppernest to protect the eggs and that E-S was able to install a spy camera, for you to keep an eye on them, TPC. :-*

I wonder why they chose a new location after the great success they had last year  ???

So glad you were keeping an eye out for them and came to the rescue TPC, hoping they have a few more kids this year  :-*

They would have used last year's box this year if they could have but there is construction going on there so too much disturbance for a nesting pair. We hoped they would use penthouse nestbox # 2 but no.  Hopefully with the 2010 site will be available in 2012 - we are going to do our darndest to make this year's site unavailable next year.

Jules and Beau are quiet, but this year kind of spooky silent.  Even on strafing runs she didn't make a sound today.  And they building has been having work done on it for the last couple of weeks and the birds have not been attacking the workers.  If it were the Radisson or Brandon birds, someone would have gotten a good scare by now and would have auditory nightmares after listening to the birds scream at them by now.  Last year, Jules and Beau came so close to hitting us when we were retrieving the chicks for banding but this year they aren't doing what we would expect, even just based on last year's performance.  I have to assume its the location affecting how they responde to perceived threats.  It would be great if next year if they would go back to last year's site and then we could see how they behave ...  :-\

Even if spooky silent, at least they have finally produced eggs, despite the nonstart at either the 2010 nest box or the penthouse site, and the false start at the unsuitable site.  It's great that you were able to track them down to provide them with the Tupper Nest, TPC.  We will be looking forward to reports of what they are up to thanks to Eye-spy's monitor cam.

I knew you would eventually find them nested TPC :-*

Great news. Even if one is viable , it would be great.

so you know how long the eggs have been there or is that a guess.

"The Diner" is a nickname we have given to a building the West Winnipeg peregrines like to eat at.  We don't say where it is specifically because we are still having some problems with the safety and security of this pair.  And this year they aren't helping us any.

so you know how long the eggs have been there or is that a guess.

Because no one has been able to access the site, or check on it for us, we aren't really sure.  There are four eggs, she is incubating so it is probably a week, maybe a bit more.  We will just have to count backward if the eggs hatch.

Maybe they feel more safe where they are??/

If only!  They are constantly in a state of not-quite-nervousness, but rather hyper-awareness I guess.  They seem to be always on guard which isn't good for their stress levels at this site.  We will defintely be keeping them off here next year!

That is too bad. I wonder what would make them pick a site that they did not feel secure at. Maybe they had to quickly , to get eggs laid.

HOpe all turns out well. :-*

We have finally managed to access the West Winnipeg site and found Beau and Jules incubating four eggs - two of which were damaged beyond hatching.  The remaining two looked okay in a quick visual survey but we will have to wait and see what happens.  We installed a nest tray to protect the remaining two eggs and cameras to monitor the site since access is difficult.  Neither Beau nor Jules have had any problems with the nest tray and so far the two damaged eggs have been discarded and the two undamaged eggs continue to be incubated.  When will they hatch, perhaps about June 10th but we don't know for sure since we aren't sure when incubation began.  So a real waiting game here!
