We went out at about 2 p.m. and spotted one bird on the SW corner of the building. Since it was raining, we assumed the other was in the nestbox on the chicks, so didn't look any further.

I live not too far from the WW nest site. When I emptied my rain gauge this morning it had 3.75 inches of rain in it (about 9.5 cm) - that is for the whole weekend. :P

All the chicks are fine at West Winnipeg.  They were lazing in the sun for most of the morning, no parent with them (likely on the corner out of sight).  Hard to count them because it really was on amorphous white chick pile.  Eventually the novelty of being parent-less, dry and "tanning" wore off and they decided to try their beaks at preening.  They are novices still but learning and it gave me the opportunity to count heads - one, two, three four.  ;D

0845h - Beatrix is sitting on the front edge of the nestbox, two kids are lying on their bellies in the sun, two kids are sitting up and doing a little walking about the nestbox.  They look great

At about 6 pm, Beatrix was standing in/by the nest box such that you could just see her head above the wall from a distance.

She spent all of yesterday doing that - almost like she wasn't going to take a chance that the rain was going to sneak in while she wasn't watching.  Chicks lay in piles all day - very cute.  And it looks like she might have inherited some of her grandfather's (Trey's) neat genes.  Her box has just one small black head sitting in the corner from when it was raining so hard.  No feathers or legs or anything.  Not like the Radisson - man o man, Smiley has got to learn to just bring the edible bits so the inedible bits don't collect.  Never seen the Radisson box this messy this early.

Beatrix is in the box with the kids but isn't velcroed on them like she was on the weekend - shows what a few more days can do.  The chicks are tucked up against her breast, much the same as with Princess but Beatrix doesn't have them in the corner - think she has figured out where the driest spot is.  Beau is sitting just beside the nestbox, very much a family image, well, an out-of-focus family image because of the rain!  The chicks look fine if perhaps a bit damp.

Spotted both Beau and Beatrix this evening  ;D

Maybe because it's not raining?  ;)

And because the chicks don't need to be hovered over anymore - the four of them make a decent sized chick pile!  :o
