This evening the wind is supposed to be north and have gusts of up to 70 km.  Rain is to be going sideways according to the weather people.  Does this nest have some protection against these types of winds?

Dennis confirmed that the second egg hatched last night - yippeee!

Hopefully if the other two do hatch, they will do so later tomorrow after the rain.  Saves their parents some extra work and worry.

I think perhaps egg 2 has hatched - hard to see them in the box at the moment, the parents love to be in the way!!!

Still just the one chick so far as I can see.  Perhaps the cold at laying and during incubation was much worse than we anticipated.  Will just have to see what happens at Logan and McKenzie Seeds to know for sure I guess.

Did Beatrix get her fair share of the egg shell after Ty did his nibbling?

Doesn't look like, the shell looks the same as when Ty left.  Not all birds nibble on their eggs, or probably more accurately, not all birds nibble all the time on the eggshells.

Still just one chick when the sun moved far enough west to obscure our camera view.
Will be able to check again tomorrow morning.

We have our first hatch - at least one chick today and surprise, surprise, Ty was the one who was on the tot when s/he made his appearance.  He wouldn't get off when Beatrix came to relieve him and she didn't do a Princess and push him off.  She hung out a bit in the box and when it was obvious he wasn't going anywhere, she left and came back twice more over the next couple of hours.  Then the eggshell appeared from under Ty, he did a wee bit of nibbling and then Beatrix arrived and he relinquished their chick and the 3 other eggs to her.  Chick wasn't very old, not a bright white yet so the feathers weren't completely dry yet.

How nice to hear that Ty was given an opportunity to experience the first hatch. It’s just so sweet whenever a female falcon allows the male to participate - especially to the extent that Beatrix allowed for their first hatch. :D

This would be a great pair to watch on a cam!
