Thanks Burdi!  I forgot about this site - watched it last year or the year before and really enjoy it when they zoom in on the babies.  I think maybe this is the nest that lost two pretty big chicks to eagles... :'(

I haven't been watching this nest (it caught my attention while browsing another site), and thought I should alert those who do. I thought of you in particular, GCG. ;)  I know you often comment on Osprey nests. :)

I really enjoy watching them as well, but haven't had much time lately.

Congratulations Rachel and Steve! One egg just hatched, and another has a large pip. :-*

I love the following quote from Dr. Rob Bierregaard...

"Please remember that nature is not cruel. Being cruel implies intent to harm someone or something just to do harm. Nature is unforgiving, harsh, and often random. But it's not cruel."

How very true!

This was posted on their site. I will continue to watch the cam for the beauty of seeing the osprey and the beautiful view.

"Steve is still providing Rachel with fish, but she was out to catch fish on her own yesterday too.

Project Puffin Director Dr. Steve Kress shares his insight and gives context on why the eagle attack may have occurred, including a first hand account from staff on Hog Island. Please read the blog entry:

http://blog.explore.org/audubo...

Osprey expert Dr. Rob Bierregaard told us, "The Hog Island ospreys will not renest this year. The adults will hang around until they migrate. They won’t be a constant presence and they may wander off - adults often do this when nests fail - but they won’t abandon the nest. They’ll be around to make sure other birds don’t get ideas about taking over the nest. There’s too much invested in it and it has been successful. Nothing is certain in wildlife biology, as we all know, but I’m quite sure they’ll be back next spring. Please remember that nature is not cruel. Being cruel implies intent to harm someone or something just to do harm. Nature is unforgiving, harsh, and often random. But it's not cruel."

Oh, this is so sad. Thanks for sharing susha. I have followed eagle cams and have seen they eat fish, small mammals and I now know steal from other bird nests.

Such a sad day.  Steve and Rachel's two thriving chicks were scooped from their nest yesterday by an eagle :'(

Been watching this nest and enjoying the close-up views of these little guys as their awesome parents took such great care of them.  Now they're gone.

Eagle babies need to eat too. Death is part of life.  A consequence of having an intimate view of these families via webcam.  We humans get attached.   :-*

...I was reading their blog and would never imagine how many fish are delivered to their nest on average. I copied last years chart to share.

Ospreys are incredible fisherbirds!

There are now two chicks and time is near for egg #3. I was reading their blog and would never imagine how many fish are delivered to their nest on average. I copied last years chart to share.

There has been a hatch at this nest. One cute little osprey. I was awaiting a little ball of white fluff. Not so! I love this site. Close up view of the nest and they often zoom in. One down, two to go.

Their blogs says they are on pip watch. 3 Osprey sites and I sincerely hope to watch this Osprey nest from hatch to fledge. I have never seen this before.  ;D

Have just seen a VERY closeup  view of three intact eggs. Possibly with a pip. Let's hope!

For the last few days, I have been watching yet another osprey cam. They too, are close to hatching.
