Peregrine Falcons nested on the Library for the first time in the summer of 2004. That year there were four eggs, but shortly after the eggs hatched the female, Sarah John, broke her wing leaving the male, Joel, to raise the chicks on his own. Only one chick successfully fledged, the other three succumbed to malnourishment and disease. Sarah John with the broken wing received veterinary treatment and now appears in nature education programs.  A new female, Nona, arrived in 2005 and they nested successfully before Joel broke his wing which did not heal well and he had to be euthanized.  From 2006, Nona's mate at this location has been Squawker.

(wooden decoy was used to focus the camera - photos from the Travelers Tower Peregrine Watch website)

The nestbox is on the 21st floor of the Travelers Tower in downtown Hartford. Amelia started nesting on the tower in 1997. Previously, the last documented nesting occurred on the Tower in the late 1940s.  The nesting tray is located on a window ledge on the 21st floor, overlooking Constitution Plaza and the Connecticut River. The tray is roughly 24" x 15" and is filled with 1/4" pea stone (gravel). The first tray was placed on the ledge by volunteers in 1984. The current tray was built by Bob D'Aquila of Trammel Crow. The new tray was installed in March 2001.  The cameras (one at each end of the ledge) were installed in 2002 I believe.

Ironton-Russell Bridge
Ironton, Ohio & Russell, Kentucky

(photos: bridge by CMH2315fl/Flickr (cc); nest by Ohio DNR)

The Ironton–Russell Bridge opened in 1922 as the first highway bridge along the Ohio River between Parkersburg, West Virginia and Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon, the Ironton-Russell bridge was followed by numerous others at Ashland, Portsmouth, and Huntington. This light-blue cantilever bridge carries two lanes of traffic and a narrow sidewalk.

In 2000, the Ohio Department of Transportation released a report recommended the replacement of the then 78 year old span. The bridge was retrofitted in the 1970s with strengthening beams and plates. The bridge will still be forced to close when temperatures approach -5 degrees Fahrenheit due to the brittle nature of the steel used. Continuous monitoring is routine during temperatures below freezing to check for any cracking in the substructure of the span. One of the replacements considered was a three-lane single-tower cable suspension bridge. The final design was chosen in January 2003, however, the high costs of constructing the bridge became apparent when costs for the new bridge came in at $110 million, well over the original estimated cost. The sharp rise was attributed to the dramatic increase in construction costs partially blamed on Hurricane Katrina, which increased the cost of concrete materials and items derived from petroleum products. The bridge has been redesigned with two-towers and has been reduced from three lanes to two. Construction on the replacement span began in March 2012 just upstream from the current structure. The current bridge will remain open during construction and will be closed and demolished once the new bridge is open.

there is no webcam at this location

May 18, 2004 - six members of the Ohio Division of Wildlife were inspecting the Ironton-Russell Bridge to identify two potential peregrine falcon chicks nesting on a bridge pier. But when the wildlife officials were granted a closer look at the nest, they found four peregrine falcon chicks instead. The birds, one of the fastest animals on earth with a recorded top speed of 242 miles per hour, have been known to swoop down and peck at the heads of unsuspecting pedestrians on the bridge. As a result of the birds and their endangered status, the pedestrian walkway was closed.

March 2016 - Construction on the new bridge (upstream from the old bridge) began in 2012 and could be open before the end of 2016.  By March 2016 the new $81.3 million bridge was more than 83 percent complete, according to Kathleen Fuller, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Transportation's District 9 office.  Efforts to keep the old bridge open as a historical (it was completed in 1922), pedestrian span after the new one is completed hadn't (as of March) gained a lot of traction. Plans are in place to demolish the old bridge in 2017, Fuller said.  Officials also will make an effort to relocate a pair of peregrine falcons from beneath the old bridge before it is torn down, Fuller said.  "They're pretty good about relocating themselves," she said.

Market Tower is a skyscraper located at the corner of Illinois and Market streets in Indianapolis, Indiana. The tower was completed in 1988 and it has 32 floors, making it the fourth-tallest building in the city. It is unknown whether the 8 spires at the top of the tower are included in the building height, which is 421 feet (128 m). Market Tower is the tallest concrete reinforced tower in the state of Indiana. It is primarily used for office space.

(photos: both from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee)

Peregrine Falcons have been present on the UWM campus for several years frequently seen soaring above or perched on several of the high rise buildings on campus. In particular, much activity has been observed on the Engineering & Mathematical Sciences Building. In the fall of 2007, Greg Septon of the Peregrine Falcon Recovery Program, toured the EMS site and encouraged University officials and scientists to build and install a nest box at the site. Plans were drawn up for the box, UWM Physical Plant carpenters and other trades workers constructed and installed the nest box at a site chosen on the roof of the EMS building. Department Biological Sciences faculty and staff provide scientific observation and data reporting.

Its a nice website and two cams, one looking in, one looking out.  Also a blog but doesn't really track day-to-day minutiae (or at least not so far).  Nestbox has been replaced and there is now a lot less stress over the safety of the chicks-in-the-box.

One Capital Centre Building
10th & Main Street
Boise, Idaho

(photos: building by Architecture Buff/Skyscraperpage forum; nestbox from Peregrine Fund website)

One Capital Center is a high rise building in Boise, Idaho. It is located at 999 Main St. The building has 14 floors and is 206 feet tall and was completed in 1975 by Mountain Bell. From 1975 to 1978 it was the tallest building in the city of Boise and the state of Idaho, but now it is the second tallest building in Boise. Billionaire J. R. Simplot (1909-2008) had an office on the top floor of this building. In April 2009, a webcam was set up to view a pair of peregrine falcons incubating four eggs in a nest on the fourteenth floor of the One Capital Center Building. (source: Wikipedia)  Nestbox is on the northwest corner of the building on the 14th floor.  Site is coordinated by The Peregrine Fund (Boise is where their headquarters is located).

Joseph Smith Memorial Building
Salt Lake City, Utah

(photos: building from J Stephen Conn/Flickr; nestbox from the Salt Lake City Peregrines facebook page)

Originally the Hotel Utah, the Joseph Smith Memorial Building was later named in honor of Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. It is located on the corner of Main Street and South Temple in Salt Lake City.  The corner of Main Street and South Temple has long been important in Utah history. Prior to construction of the Hotel Utah in 1909-11, the general tithing office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), a bishop's storehouse, and the Deseret News printing plant all were located on the site.  Work on the Second Renaissance Revival style hotel, designed by the Los Angeles architectural firm of Parkinson and Bergstrom, began in June 1909. Two years later, on June 9, 1911, the Hotel Utah opened for business. While the LDS Church was the primary stockholder, many Mormon and non-Mormon community and business leaders also purchased stock in the effort to provide the city with a first-class hotel.  "The largest and finest bar in the West [was built] in the basement of the Hotel" to pay off a $2M construction loan. The financing was secured by Presiding Bishop Charles W. Nibley, from New York financier Charles Baruch. But the scheme obviously required the sales of hard liquor.  The ten-story building has a concrete and steel structure and is covered with white glazed terra cotta and brick. Various additions and remodelings have occurred throughout the years, including a substantial expansion to the north and modifications to the roof-top dining facilities.  On January 3, 1978, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as the Hotel Utah.   The building ceased operations as a hotel in August 1987. A major remodeling and adaptive reuse project to accommodate both community and church functions was completed in 1993. Church leader Gordon B. Hinckley chose the name when he observed that there were many monuments to pioneer leader and Utah founder Brigham Young, but none to Joseph Smith.  2011 marked the celebration of 100 years since initial construction was completed on the Hotel Utah.  The peregrines nest on the roof.

Dairyland Power Cooperative Plant
Genoa, Wisconsin

Genoa Station #3 (G-3), located on the bank of the Mississippi River about 20 miles south of Dairyland Power Cooperative's La Crosse, Wis., headquarters, was completed in 1969 at a cost of $56 million.  G-3 was named simply because it was the third generating facility to be built in Genoa, Wis. (Genoa #1, now dismantled, and the La Crosse Boiling Water Reactor, shut down in 1987 for economic reasons, were built earlier.)  This super efficient, single unit station has a generating capacity of 379 megawatts of electricity.

The Alma Station, located on the bank of the Mississippi River in Alma, Wis., first came online in 1947.  The first three units of the Alma Station ceased operations on Dec. 31, 2011. In October 2013, Dairyland announced plans to indefinitely suspend operations at Alma Station units 4 and 5 by early 2015.

This pair is notorious for not managing to evade identification despite the presence of a webcam.  Both are banded however so there is always hope.e a matter of time.  12 Mile Bluff is fortunately close enough that the camera at the nestbox can be positioned to see the birds nesting on the cliff ledge.

Rhodes State Office Tower
Columbus, Ohio

(photos: building from Wikipedia; nest ledge from Ohio DNR blog)

The James A. Rhodes State Office Tower is a 41-story, 191.72 m (629.0 ft) skyscraper at 30 East Broad Street in Columbus, Ohio. The Rhodes Tower was completed and occupied in 1974, and is currently the tallest building in Columbus and the fifth tallest in Ohio after Key Tower, Terminal Tower and 200 Public Square in Cleveland and Great American Tower at Queen City Square in Cincinnati.  Construction costs totaled approximately $66 million. It is named after Ohio's longest serving governor, James A. Rhodes. The building's odd shape is attributed to a last-minute decision to cap its height; originally, the building was supposed to be nearly 150 ft (46 m) taller.
