Hatch Watch Begins
1800 hrs - last time I saw under Princess/Trey, there were still 3 eggs, no chicks. Interestingly, most new chicks are found early in the morning. Our first egg last year was spotted by Lauren, one of our younger viewers, first thing in the morning (too early according to her father!) Data from the Peregrine Fund found that 40% (out of 500 eggs observed) hatched between 6 am and 12 noon. So best of luck to our early risers, chances are you will be the first ones to see a chick! For those of you who prefer to rise at a more reasonable hour of the day, it appears that both Princess and Trey are more active over the eggs in the morning sunshine.
1200 hrs - So far still only eggs in the Radisson nest. With the warm weather, Princess and Trey (he's on right now) are moving around on the eggs alot so its not difficult to see what's there and what isn't. And I think the zoom is enough that no one should have difficulty seeing the chicks when they arrive. If you want to see a larger image, click on the "standalone" link right under the image on the CBC Manitoba website - it will open another window which you can make smaller/larger as you like.
For those of you wondering about the "waver" you can see, that's heat being reflected/re-radiated from the building. When we zoom out later on, I think that heat waves should be less noticeable.
0730 hrs - the Winnipeg Free Press published an article in today's paper about the Radisson Peregrines and the imminent hatching. Thanks Alison!
