Updates

May 26 - Pandemic (the male) was seen picking at one egg and upon closer examination we could see that part of the egg had collapsed at one end. Likely the collapsed section had finally broken and he knew it was time to remove it from the nest - which he did.
Also, with thanks to our Cam Guru and the folks at Rogers TV, this year's FalconCam went live today!

May 8 - Full house - four eggs and hard incubation has begun. Hatching should begin the first week in June.

May 5 - Finally able to confirm Ella and Pandemic have a third egg.

May 2 - Second egg laid.

Apr 30 - Looks like courting is over - Ella has laid her first egg today in the nestbox which is great news as the nestbox provides extra protection from the weather which greatly improves the odds that their chicks will survive to fledge.

Apr 25 - Haven't seen any sign of Hazel since her eviction and no sign of Pip returning to join Ella (see notes on Ella's and Pandemic's family tree below). Ella and Pandemic are getting along very well, but new pairings take extra courting and they are definitely taking their time.

Mar 27 - Ella came screaming into town and it took only 3 hours for Ella to force Hazel out of the nestbox for good. Pandemic however has been harder to shift, he's been in the nestbox talking away even though there is a new lady in charge.

Mar 12 - Hazel and Pandemic arrived in town a bit earlier than usual- both for them and way before most of the Manitoba birds. Took them no time whatesoever to get very comfortable in the nestbox at the Radisson.

Mom is Ella who hatched in Brandon in 2015, yup, she's 10 years old this year. Her father was Brooklyn from Brandon, son of Screech and Holly. Her mother was Hurricane one of Princess' and Trey's daughter from here at the Radisson. Ella took over as the resident female at the Radisson with Pip in 2020. Before that, she was the resident female at the West Winnipeg nestsite with Ty a male from the Radisson. She has raised 12 chicks so far, four with her first mate Ty and eight with her second mate Pip. Five of her chicks were female, seven were male.

Her grandparents include:
  • Trey - T-Rex (first wild chick hatched after the Project began) and Madame a captive-bred female hack-released in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
  • Princess - Lightning who hatched from Sherco and Marie from Monticello, both in Minnesota.
  • Screech - Mufasa a captive-bred bird hack-released in Brandon and Phoebe, a sister of T-Rex, from the Radisson.
  • Holly - Dakota Ace a captive-bred bird, hack released in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Frieda who hatched in Alma, Wisconsin.

Dad is Pandemic, a 2020 wild-hatched peregrine from North Dakota. His father is Annie, son of Beau and Jules from West Winnipeg. His mother is Fleming, another West Winnipeg chick, daughter of Ty and Faith. Last year was his first year nesting - he had 1 female chick with Hazel.

    His grandparents include:
  • Beau and Jules , were both captive-bred and released near Winnipeg. They were our first West Winnipeg pair.
  • Ty - another Radisson male, brother of Hurricane, son of Princess and Trey, grandson of T-Rex and Madame.
  • Faith - hatched in Duluth, Minnesota. Her father was unbanded but her mother hatched at Mount McRae near Thunder Bay, Ontario.
